NOS parts or new?

Opinions please. Or comments from experience will work too.
My son asked if using a NOS oil filter could possibly cause a lifter to stick and start making noise. That got me to wondering about all the NOS parts we seem to use on our old regular cars and procars. Kevin was wondering if it is possible a New Old Stock oil filter could have paper breaking off and clogging the oil passages in his 66 Olds. While I have used NOS oil filters before with seemingly no problems...was I just lucky? NOS or NORS---New Old Stock or New Old Replacement Stock hard parts I have used with no problems. So you opinions please. Thank you for your comments.

my question is why would any one use a old filter. I know so it looks right. one can get new filters that are the correct match for the year of your car if your into the 100 point club. the rest of us my not be that fussy. but even a new filter can fall apart. I may be wrong but I thing there is only 2 plants making paper filters in the country. they make them to whom ever specks they doing the run on. any part can and will fail and anytime.. but not driving the car, but short runs in and out of the garage will kill one every time. normally if something comes off in the oil system it ends up taking out the oil pump. as the pump is a gear driven pump it can't handle ever the smallest piece going threw it. there are so many thing that can cause lifter noise that don't have to be oil. but pull the offending lifter and check it, if it's paper you should find it threw out the engine. the first place will be under the valve cover. because if it fails because it's old it would more likely then not come apart all together not just one tiny piece.

I've used and sold NOS Oil filters for years and have never had any problems, returns or complaints. If I have it in my stock, I'll use the NOS Parts without hesitating. Of Course I am Partial to NOS Parts.:D

If these are photos of your living room, I sure hate to see what your garage looks like!

Nos parts

I too have never given a second thought to using NOS parts. As to why use the old items? Because like the mountains some people climb...they are there. And when is the last time you got that look from the kid at the parts store when you ask for a filter for a 1937 Buick? Or a 1940 Ford. They just glaze over and look like you just dropped in from Mars. Kevin called and said his lifter has healed itself. No noise. Only the gods of the internal combustion engine will ever know what caused the noise.
I think as long as NOS parts have been stored properly there is not much that can go wrong with them.

that would be my thought on them. cars to there. is some age wear but mostly use. the things that start showing up at about 40,000 do so whether its in the fist year or the 40 year. they only go around so many times before they fall apart. don't worry the lifter problem will be back. they don't heal themselves they just have a problem or don't.
