New Paint

My brother and I stopped by PCS member Larry Hyde's house yesterday to see the new paint on his 1955 Pontiac. Here are some photos of his car. The first one is from his album which shows it as he purchased it in black. The following photos show the new white paint. Larry said he still has some finishing touches that he is working on but the car is looking great. The photos don't show them clearly but the graphics in the rear side windows were done by Larry himself. Looking good Larry. Enjoy.

Fantastic job. It looks great, and it is a car that you don't see very often, which makes it even more special.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

With a set of white wall tires, that Pontiac would look fantastic !

White lettering just doesn't cut it for ambulances.

Hot rods and muscle cars... sure does. Not ProCars.

Looking amazing. Refreshing in white !

Thanks Ed..I actually made the clip myself. I couldnt find one either and I like James Fischer's even better..The guy I bought it from had the base for the whip and I found the co-ax under the seat..I'm glad you like it especially since it came from your state. Good Ole Parkston Ambulance #37-9 is still alive..Take care and I hope you don't get more than one of these replys because I lost my internet right in the middle...Larry

Thanks Darren. I actually mentioned the raised white letters to Rich when he came over. They gotta go. I just got it home from the paint shop thursday and I have been putting it back together since then and didn't quite get to the tires before Rich came but they are going soon...Larry

Thanks Keith. I think it was built as an 800 and was built as a combination but not sure if it was ever used as a hearse. Parkston Ambulance Service in Parkston South Dakota had it for most of it's life and it had many yearly inspection stickers for ambulances from South Dakota on several of the windows and one as recently as 1987...Take Care

Thanks Rich for stopping by and taking the nice photos. Rich is my go-to guy for help and info and I sure appreciate you and your brother and your info and help...

Larry...I dug out some old Barnette literature and price sheets. According to what I have here, that car is a Barnette 900 Series combination. The 800 Series cars had a slightly lower roof and full circle windows - windows that completely wrapped around without the thick "D- pillar" or sail panel at the rear quarters. Compared to the 800 Series, Barnette's 900 Series offered increased leg room in the driver's compartment side windows that were increased in height to 17.5-inches, a lower roof crown, and a chrome reveal molding at the base of the side windows running full length. They had a wheelbase of 158-inches, an overall length of 239.2-inches, a height of 69.5-inches and a width of 75.4-inches. The length of the rear compartment floor was 106-inches and the standard weight was 4,580-pounds. If you want, I can scan and e-mail the brochure to you along with a factory photo. A Barnette-Pontiac 800 Series combination car listed for $5,656 according to the price list I have available. I don't have any pricing for the 900 Series offerings which were introduced later in the model year. For all I know, the 900 Series may have replaced the 800 Series althogether but, I have no records to indicate this one way or the other. Hope that this is of some interest to you and others.
