Can any one tell me how to access the rear heater core in my 1976 S&S park row combo, i see the slotted alum. piece on the drivers side, in the rear cabin area, I tried gentley prying the top plate of that boxed area, from the window area, to the top boxed plate area, and got no where,

thanks

Greg

If you could post a picture of the heater area, it might help to figure it out. thanks Paul

Rear heater core

From what I can recall on at least one ambulance, there was a small door under the squad bench. In the cars w/o the bench, I found them because I was replacing the walls. I took the hoses totally out of each car right from the T connections which were usually just laying across the engine. It made the engine look prettier. I removed the hoses all the way to the rear heater. Of course, being in Florida, I figured we'd never have a need for heat in the car.
If you take this route, don't forget to plug the holes in the rear floor where the plumbing was in order to avoid the carbon monoxide.

The only one that I have spent any time exploring the rear heater is my 1963 Chrysler Pinner Ambulance. Once you remove the front cover, there are some screws holding the box that contains the heater core and fan. Once you remove the hose clamps and hoses, you can pull the whole unit out. I would assume that most of them are this way, but you never know how creative the different manufacturers might have gotten to conceal the heater in a space that was useful for nothing else.

Farly easy to get at the S&S. the whole wheel well comes out in one piece. run the screws along the bottom up the front and rear side and slid it to the center and there it is.

if it don't come off easily find the screw you left. I kind of liked the whole cover came off. made it easier then going down threw the top.
