My 1971 M & M Ambulance is Back Home!

After sitting in someone's back yard for 15 years and being hauled half way across the county, I was able to drive my ambulance for the first time this morning. Its been in the shop since fall where they worked on it a little bit at a time between other projects. Re-cored radiator, rebuilt gas tank, new fuel lines, new hoses, new fuel pump, new starter, new ignition key, and a lot of other stuff. (And I'm a lot lighter in the pocket book!)

Started and ran fine. Stopped, shifted, and steered like you would expect of a 40 year old car.

Wish it had heat. Its in the 20s here today. Not as bad as earlier in the week with minus numbers.

The older photos are in my album. I'll post new photos when there is something worthwile to see.

Thank you to several of you for your advice and encouragement on this project. You know who you are.

So it is safely tucked in the garage while the restore the ambulance fund grows. Now the real fun begins. Stay tuned....

Congrats on getting your car back! If you think it's up for the drive, we would love to have you and the car in Hudson, Ohio for the international meet this summer. :)

Gee, thanks a lot, Scott!

My phone has been ringing nonstop today with people asking if I know the guy who was all bundled up, driving a Cadillac ambulance. Man, you just can't beat the attention an old Cadillac ambulance commands!

Just kidding. I haven't received any calls (other than yours)...yet. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised next week to hear somebody say, "Hey, I saw an old red ambulance that looks like one of yours over in the Otsego / Maple Grove area..."

Congratulations on your maiden voyage! Now that you know it runs and stops, will you be bringing it to the Mid-Winter Meet in two weeks? :D If you bring a rig, I'll bring a rig...
