movie and tv hearses/ambulances

We were watching an episode of 'Caprica' today. This episode was called False Labor. In one scene a 1960 model limo style hearse is used to run guns. The guns are hid in the casket.
I think this is a Eureka coach. Slanted C pillars, a name plate on the front fender just behind the headlight, another name plate on the fin of the rear fender and a big crown in the middle of the rear/end door panel are the clues to the maker.
Is this a club member's coach or a movie prop house coach? Does anyone know?
Where have you spotted a movie or tv hearse or ambulance we should watch for?

Funny you mention this Mike as to watching for our cars in movies. A movie producer approached me at the Goodguys Nationals car show in July about using "Miamitown" in a movie. He called again yesterday... so who knows??? It all seems legit but his production company is out of Columbus, so maybe it's "the kind of movie" you don't tell too many people about :yum:

Seen a couple while watching "The Wonder Years", episode "The Graduation" last evening. Can't recall the make/model. One was blue and white - low top; and the other red and white - high top, which appeared to be a pontiac.

I went to help on 2 days and nights shooting for the movie "The Woods" with Bruce Campbell in 2006. We used the '56 Superior ambulance of my friend but after buying the movie on DVD I see that the car was not used a lot. He also rented several times his '67 S&S Parkrow, recently for the "Being human" serie.

On a resent episode of "Fast and loud" (the title is something like Lincoln lowrider) when the guys look on someones property there is what looks like a Superior LaSalle.

Anyone studied the covered up hearse?

On another thread we talked about Ron Hast identifying the funeral home warehouse/embalming room filming scenes for "Reservoir Dogs" as being Utter-McKinley Mortuary...
Has anyone studied the scenes to identify the year model of the hearse covered in plastic in several scenes?

Movie car database?

Speaking of cars in movies, how does Hollywood find a period correct car in various locals? Is there a database we can register our cars? The '65 limo I just purchased was to be used in a movie in Georgia but I didn't want to wait a month for the shooting so the owner of the car had to cancel the rental.

There are privately owned companies that maintain significant databases for supply to TV/movie production, yes. I've personally met and worked with two (and there are many!), one based in LA and the other in TX. That 'smaller' TX company represents 30k vehicles alone.

Here's another one for you...

In the movie "Walking Tall", a black 1972 Superior is used in the funeral scene, and has a MORGAN nameplate in the window... Jeremy? Jeff B? Tennessee members? what firm would have owned that car?

For those who are acually interested in the question at hand, This company
http://propsonwheels.com/ will take a photo of your car and put it on there site. I have had several calls from the owner looking for certain Cadillacs. I was able to help him line up the 1957 eldo convert for the famous daves commercial if you scroll down to the bottom of the page.

My 63 was used in A Bronx Tale. A cool gangsta movie, with plenty of classic cars.

Lillo Brancato, Jr. who played the lead character "Calogero Anello" received ten years in prison in real life for a burglary conviction in New York. His accomplice in the burglary was convicted of murdering a police officer during the offense. He shot the officer in the face. Good movie, POS actor in real life.

While I can't confirm it, I would hazard to guess that it was one of Shackelford Funeral Home's cars. I did hear someone say years ago that the limo used in the movie was theirs. Considering where they filmed, there would be only two or three firms in the area that would have contributed cars. The primary filming took place is Henderson where Casey and Leon Johnson Funeral Home were located. (They have since been acquired by the Shackelfords) Any filming that took place in McNairy county would fall under the Shackelford's service area.

Not sure that this helps but all the people that I would know to ask are no longer in the business.
