Motoring to Michigan on Monday

Ron Devies

PCS Ohio Chapter President PCS Past Vice President
Tomorrow I am leaving first thing in the morning to pick up a car in Ann Arbor. No not a procar, but our latest police car. The DoD is giving away Humvees to local governments and my first one is in Ann Arbor of all places, the home of those pesky Wolverines. I will be at the Selfridge National Guard base. Unfortunately we will be in and out but will return in February a little farther north. If you are travelling on 23 and see a pick up pulling a trailer with a Hummer on it, that will be us.:biker:

Glad to see you're coming to a town that has a winning football team Chief. Stop and and just breathe in what success feels like.

You know Selfrige is nowhere near Ann Arbor or US 23...

He just wants to see where college's best football team is Kevin. I hope he is not wearing anything with "OhHowIhateOhioState" stuff on it. Michigan folks are tough and he is liable to get stomped on. xmass

Is this going to be for your SWAT team?

The thirst of a typical Humvee brings to mind an amusing anecdote about World War II surplus sales I picked up on a visit to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum outside Hamilton, Ontario several years ago. One of the airplanes on exhibit had come off a Manitoba farm that originally purchased it FOR THE GAS it still contained at war's end. You heard this right - the Canadian government thought it cheaper to throw the plane in as a freebie with the fuel, as opposed to paying someone to empty it into actual gas tanks. No doubt this was also common practice on the U.S. side of the border, especially when I also recall this photo I once saw of rows and rows of near-new Jeeps left out to rust on some Pacific Island after the Japanese were defeated. In the same spirit, the "Whiz Kids" that used statistical analysis to salvage the Ford Motor Company's finances after World War II built their reputations on calculations that concluded, for example, there was no reason to send European Theatre bombers to the Pacific after the Nazis were defeated, as their range and technology would have been unsuited to an invasion or attack on the Home Islands.

Ann Arbor or Selfridge?

They better give you better directions Chief. It's gotta be one or the other. If you get lost, come on up and we'll find some chow.

Confused?

Well I know I had to call Selfridge and send my paperwork there, but I definitely have to pick the vehicle up in Ann Arbor. Makes sense with the Federal government that you send it somewhere else and pick it up in another place. I assumed they were near each other.

Well selfridge handles alot of that stuff. but I have known people to pick up vehicles at the epa. or the national guard unit etc just depends on who is doing the Vehicle storage

Ron if you need any help call me

Okay here it is

After I got to the office and got the file today, I realized it was LANSING not Ann Arbor. :drive2: The Hummer is safely home in the mechanic's bay and I am home too.:drama:

Ron, you sound like Christopher Columbus. When he left, he didn't know where he was going. When he got there, he didn't know where he was. when he got home, he didn't know where he had been, and he did it all on borrowed money.

That's just as bad for Wolverines fans. We dislike Spartans as much as we do Ohio State.

Glad you had a safe trip and like most, I would love to see some pictures.

I will post some pics as soon as it comes back from the mechanic. I am going to collect a couple more and then keep the best one and give the other two to the nozzle jockeys.
