Probably not far, there wasn't as much traffic back then. The highway might not even have been open yet.

The PA Turnpike had their own ambulances, too. I saw one in the '70's, it was a Springfield Travelall (if anyone has pictures, I'd be forever greatful, as i was only 13 and was on a bus, so I couldn't get a photo).

This one is from New Jersey.
