M M ambulance find

One of the guys in my car club called me this last week, and he told me that as he was driving his dump truck around. He was rubber necking yards and thought he found a old ambulance or hearse. When we drove by the house there was a break in the fence and there was the car.

i had to give him some good props on seeing it because you had to be really looking hard to see it. So we decided to drive over on sunday and check it out.

Did the usual knocked on the door to see if we get chased away with a shot gun or not. This place has all kinds of cars and parts, and also lots of no trespassing signs.

the guy came to the door told him my story and he laughed, and said lets go look at it. he has had the car for about twenty years. I band had it years ago before him. He gave me everything is for sale but would not give me a price. so im trying to figure out if i want it to part it out we will see how it goes. It has been sitting enough years that all the doors and locks ect ar frozen shut. cannot not get any of them to open up.

but it is fun to see that some of these old girls are still laying out here to be found.

the missing ends off the rear bumper are worth more then the car. but she would be sharp redone. I'm thinking you found one of the rare ones here. it's the last year of meteor just before the merger

This would be a fantastic restoration project for you to do, and to keep it all original using the parts that you are taking off your 1957. I know of only one 1956 that is similar to the one you found, and that is a combination that is dressed as an ambulance. This being a true ambulance, it would be a one of a kind survivor. Besides, you already have the knowledge of what goes where, since you have already disassembled the 1957.

Awesome car that REALLY needs to be restored! '56 Meteors are one of my all-time favorites having owned 2 of them(one being the fore-mentioned '56 combo painted as an ambulance and the other being a 3-way landau). This may, as Paul mentioned, be the only remaining true-ambulance '56 Meteor! I love that upper body side molding that Meteor used! I would actually prefer that car over my '56 Superior Super Rescuer.
