looking in 89 Hemming's for 76 superior amb

I had a featured car of the month in an '89 issue of Hemming's motor news. It was a silver 76 Superior ambulance in front of a Gothic mansion. Any help in finding an issue or at least the month and year of issue would be appreciated.

76 superior

Thanx for the reply, John.
I thought the month was July, but they could not find it there. Someone from the PCS contacted me shortly after the car was featured, and a number of them ended up in cali. They were painted teal (not my decision!), although prior to that they were silver. Had about 10 75 & 76's.

California Units

Robert Shepherd, head of the Golden State PCS Chapter may be able to help? It sounds like one of the many units a collector in Texas had and ended up California and as I recall most all were painted teal. A first the way you described it being taken in front of a gothic mansion sounded like the back drop of a National PCS Meet when the cars are paraded before a beautiful background for photo op's and the PCS Caretaker of Old Profesional Car Magazines could probably help you? If the car came from Stephen Diamond's collection, the color was most likely Chevrolet "Sky Blue". It was a popular color on early 1970's Chevy pickup trucks. Stephen had all his cars painted with that color, using white above and below. I purchased my Criterion from Robert Dean, who acquired a number of Diamond ambulances from a private party in the Los Angeles area. According to Robert, the man bought 8 former Diamond rigs and brought them to CA from TX. I hope to see Stephen in October when I attend a conference in San Antonio; I'll ask him how many of his collector ambulances ended up in CA.

Hemming's search for 76 Caddy Superior Amb

In 1985 I was a paramedic in Portland, Or, and was unhappy about how the inter-facility ambulance transports were handled. Folks who were horribly ill were forced to be rattled around in (and pay for) ALS units for scheduled transports such as dialysis, chemo & radiation. Medicare wasn't paying and the charges were absolutely devastating. So I rounded up a bunch of '75 & 76 54" Superiors cause they rode great, made current Oregon spec's, had those neat modern square headlights, & I just liked the way they looked. Co was called TLC Limousine Ambulance. We turned them into lie down limo's (while still meeting regs for cert as ambulances) with TV, stereo, VCR, flannel stretcher sheets, crushed valour interiors, etc, etc. A couple came from American in Visailla, Cali, a couple from Sierra Med Trans, same place, 4 from Shaeffer in LA, & others here & there throughout the US. The Gothic mansion is the Pittock Mansion in Portland. I paid the City $25 to park the 1st car in front of it for the pix & that's how it made it into Hemming's. They were painted silver & then teal before they were sold here & there from Portland, under the name Community Ambulance. I'm trying to find orig pix in Hemming's.
