Local Funeral Home Gets A New Hearse

Funeral home near our car lot recently got a new hearse. It is a Lincoln built by Eagle Coach. I really do not like these lincoln hearses. After seeing it I liked it better than I thought but still hate it. It is a huge thing for sure. Interior nice, never have liked the sun roof, gee whiz it is a hearse not a sports car. Front very comfy and roomy. No vinyl top which looked ok I guess, landau bars very cheap looking. Few pictures posted for your approval or rejection.

sunroof or?

Danny,
I never liked that grille/front end on any Lincoln. As far as the sunroof don't think of it as a sunroof or moonroof. Think of it as a skylight. It lets in more light to show a flag draped casket. I think the Eagle Cadillacs with the skylight are better looking coaches.

I see your point about the light MIke but you can't see in hardly at all so light not much help.

I do not like it much, although it actually looks better than some of the other hearses built within the past ten years, or so.

To me she is an ugly duckling. If I were the FD I would sent my old one in for a face lift.

Im not a big fan of the grille on the Lincolns or the tail light treatment but after seeing Paul Saether's Lincoln in Milwaukee, its not as awful as in pictures. Paul seems very happy with his and being in the Northland, the all wheel drive is a bonus. I'll stick with my 86 Lincoln though.

Unfavorable Lincoln. Look alike UFO style. Window on the top???? What is a reason with top roof? Do have open and closed? if they do and why? Most people prefer Cadillac hearse forever. Thanks

Don't know about that I would love to have an 03 to 11 Lincoln. Style wise I think they put the Cadillac of the same time period to shame and mechanically they are bullet proof. Just way out of my price range now. Closest I can get now is our 06 Executive L triple black Town Car one of the daily rides average 20 MPG good for a tank.

WIndow on top? I ask guy at funeral home same thing. He said to let light in to better see the casket and it had lights around window too. I stood there for about a minute and thought bull crap, windows soo small can't even see in. For me, give up the roof window and make a limo style out of it then you can see in and don't need top window. IT will only leak later.

Lincolns

I completely agree with Pete about the '03-'11 Lincoln Town Car. I have always been a Cadillac guy, but was particularly impressed by the '07 Eagle Lincoln Ultimate Elite hearse we bought when I was with Willwerscheid Funeral Home in St. Paul. The car had enough electronic stuff on it to be "modern" but was much more basic than a Cadillac of similar era. This did not affect the ride or luxuriousness of the car in any way. Best of all, this car was (and still is) totally without mechanical problems. In the 5 years I used this car, we only had two very minor coachwork issues, both fixed immediately and without question by Eagle, and NO Lincoln issues.

As for having a skylight in the back of a hearse, I appreciate this feature simply because it lets extra light into the casket compartment. I wanted the '07 Eagle Lincoln to have oval windows because I liked the way it looked from the exterior, but almost as importantly because I wanted it to be bright on the inside as we opened the rear door for pallbearers to load and unload. This is just my opinion, but many landau hearses are way too dark inside; too much like a cave.

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to rent a (then new) 2009 Eagle Cadillac Echelon when we needed a second hearse. I found the car to be perfect in terms of limousine-styling and bright in the casket compartment. I'm still not sure about the absence of drapes in the Echelon, however. I'd like to have airline drapes that could be pulled closed if necessary.

The current design of the Eagle Lincoln MKT has nothing to do with seeing the casket from the exterior, but the skylight feature has everything to do with interior ambiance when the rear door is opened.

A few weeks ago, I was involved in the delivery of a new Eagle MKT that has a vinyl top. Some funeral homes like this feature because they feel it makes the vehicle look more "traditional."

Eagle has had the skylight for a few years now. I think its more of the European styling just making it over hear, as many of the overseas hearses have had glass roofs for a very long time.
John, I don't think it was a matter of most people preferring a Cadillac, its just there really isn't many big luxury cars out there to choose from, and I think the public just expected it because of Cadillacs reputation. Back in the day hearses were built on all kinds of chassis, but the Cadillac commercial chassis made it much easier, as it was a purpose built chassis and the builder did not have to cut and stretch like other makes.
