It Happens....

I'm a little disappointed with the media coverage of this disaster. We all agree it is a horrible thing to happen but, it is a necessay evil if the people in this country want to "DRIVE THEIR CARS!". 98% of the oil drilled is used to power our vehicles as I'm informed.

I wish them the best!

not to get into the political side of things. the loss of 11 people and the number injured were bad enough. but one has to wounder how necessary it is to drill under these condition when we are sitting and I mean sitting by federal regulation on more then we can ever use. it's just north of me.
we refusing to put money into the hydrogen powered cars they will work. instead invest in electric cars with is a negative drain on petroleum. then invest millions of dollars in corn base ethanol with is also a negative drain on petroleum. you use more fuel to produce a gl of ETOH then you off set with the final product. this to me is "the inconvenient truth". we will now spend a whole lot more money to clean up this mess while the Greene's use it as a excuse not to build any new refineries in the US or develop oil fields all ready mapped out drilled and caped. all the while we continue to import finished product. every law or regulation bought and paid for by special interest groups to our elected offices in washington DC. but you think building a oil refinery is hard, try to set up a Horse slaughter plant in the US. time the common since majority takes a hand once more. if you think this is just us look up north. they want to and are building a pipe line from Canada to the golf coast to refine oil from the field I just talked about rather then build a refinery in Canada!!!:soapbox:

Perhaps some of the oil-dependent part of our economy should be parked, and replaced by something(s) less ecologically and politically volatile? The drive everywhere attitude that has defined the "American Way of Life" for the past couple of generations has many negatives attached to it. I like cars, or I wouldn't be typing here, but I think we have over-emphasized the use of motor vehicles, and are paying an enormous price for having done so.

but who are we paying it to.. and why. the earth has been riped and torn apart for things we people need and want. but to day there is nothing as destructive as mom nature. and we don't have far to look to see it. crude oil came up out of the ground for years before we decided to use it. after all whale oil burned so much better in your lamp. had we not developed it it would still be coming up out of the ground and running off into the water ways. the fuel we use in our cars is nothing compared to what we use to make our goods heat our homes and create our Electric energy. all of this puts people to work. as will cleaning up this mess will put people to work. some one will figure out a way to make money off it and get you and me to pay them to make it. but if you have any doubts of mom nature check out Nashville or look to Iceland. spend some time in Yellowstone. think back to the fish kill last year in that titale wave. not making light of this mess. but I'm not going to beat myself for being the cause of it. :whip:

Actually, crude oil pretty much stays in the ground unless you drill a hole down to get it out (or unless Uncle Jed is shootin' at some food.) And, uh, whale oil doesn't come out of the ground at all. In fact, if people hadn't been using it, it probably would have stayed in the whales!

Now that said, all animals use the resources they find around them in some way or another. We just use a lot of them. We have cars and electric appliances and such, and we can't just un-ring that bell and get rid of all that. But we do need to find ways to use less, recycyle more, and generally be less environmentally harmful. Seeing hybrid cars and electric cars being developed, community recycling programs, Energy Star appliances, and even the windmills behind my house makes me feel like we are taking steps in the right direction.

I wondering now. but look up oil development and you'll discover that was was developed because it was found bubbling up out of the ground. no not one word of green house gas has been spoken about the volcano in Iceland not one word. thats because more green house gas was admitted and still is being admitted then all of man kind has done up to date. I'm for clean living I'm not for junk science being touted as fact. they had no business drilling for oil in the gulf when they is so much easily accessible right under our feet. but special interest have shut this resource off to us. got us buying Chinese fluorescent light bulbs full of Mercury that last half as long as incandescent and cost 4 times a much. so we can be greener. mean time natures gas is being vented or Burt off in the atmosphere because the pipe line is to full.
you guys got to get out of town to see some of this that your being lead to believe is not happening. Albany and back 2400 miles two days drive 6 meals one over night stay. 20 miles per gal, about 120 gal of gas at 3 bucks or 360 bucks 100 for motel 6 meals at 20 buck each x2 240 dollars. or around 600 bucks to drive. round trip air from me right at 800 x2 and how many gal of jet fuel?? flying is greener. now then good rail service would be maybe figuring the number of people you could carry and my car. they can do that up in Canada. but we have shut that down here. rail road Barron's were bad guys and needed shut off.

this is bad but the natural disaster in Ten and surrounding states is worse larger loss of life and way more property damage and the effects will be a lot longer in recovering because they can't tape each of us to foot the expenses like BP will. but it's second in the news and soon to be old hat. after all it's only a flood and most of us can't see it. soon as it's no longer shock news then it will be forgotten. besides it happens all the time some were. oil spill now that's the stuff that sells news papers.
