Iowa Hawkeye Summer Kickoff Event
June 25-27
The Iowa Hawkeye Chapter of the PCS is kicking off the summer with a Visit to Dyersville and Dubuque Iowa, June 25-27.
For those that do not know, Dyersville is home to Ertl, makers of great die cast vehicles, and the Field of Dreams movie site. Although we are not going to tour the site there may be enough time to visit it if you wish.
On Friday, at 2 PM we will meet up at the Dyer-Botsford Victorian House and Doll Museum located at 330 First Ave East in Dyersville for a tour. This 1850 Victorian home houses more than 1,000 dolls and much more. Admission is $4.00.
After the tour we will check into our hotel, which will be the Dyersville Super 8 located at 925 15th Ave SE, phone 563-875-8885.
After checking into the hotel we will leave for dinner at the Country Junction which has a great country feel and homestyle cooking.
The rest of the evening will be open for parking lot chat or ???
Saturday morning we will head out and visit the Plaza Antique mall, Farm Toy Museum, and of course the toy stores!! Many of the toys here are priced less than other outlets, and I'm sure everyone will find something to take home with them.
A venue for lunch is not planned, but we will play it by ear.
When everyone is ready, we will head to Dubuque for the evening, where we will be staying at the Days Inn, 1111 Dodge St. 563-583-3297. The hotel bar will feature live entertainment in the evening. If we have time we will take a tour of the Crystal Lake Caves for a 45 minute guided tour through over 3,000 feet of well lit passageways, showing nature's crystal menagerie and intricate formations. Temps are in the low 50s so bring a jacket.
The rest of the evening will be open for yourselves to explore all Dubuque has to offer, including a couple of casinos.
**If time does not permit us to take the cave tour on Saturday, we will do it on Sunday morning.
Sunday we will visit the National River Museum and Aquarium, which has 5 large aquariums and other exhibits that let you get face to face with water life in the Mississippi and much, much more. We will relax for lunch at the Depot Cafe in the museum. It is set in the refurbished Chicago, Burlington and Quincy train depot, built in 1891. The cafe boasts model railroad stations of Dubuque and historic photos displayed throughout.
Head for home.
The IHCPCS has not reserved a block of rooms. It is recommended that you reserve your rooms as soon as possible.
