As I recall, PCS member Peter Grave may have owned the “THOMPSON” car. It, along with a second 54XL, owned by Dave Meyers (white and green in color), were participants in the 1996 International Meet in St. Paul, Minnesota.
A correction to the above… in looking back through my photo album pages (containing color prints) from the 1994 PCS International Meet in Pittsburgh, PA today, I discovered that it was at that event (rather than at the Saint Paul, MN Meet in 1996) that the “THOMPSON” 54XL owned by Peter Grave was displayed. It was indeed, however, the 1996 Minnesota Meet where the white and green 1975 54XL depicted below — owned at the time by David Meyers — was on display and photographed by me.

Just located these images of the “THOMPSON” car, shared with me by Steve Lichtman back in 2005, depicting it ‘resting’ among the numerous vehicles in Peter Grave’s renowned ‘yard’ in Pennsylvania back then.
I'm pretty sure this ambulance resides in North Carolina. I understand it's a pretty rough ambulance.

Any ideas what is the car behind the 54XL? Looks like a 54" but could it be another XL or a standard model?
This is what's behind it, a '76 Superior 54. It was in rough shape at the time, 2005.
The Thompson FH 54XL is indeed in NC now. It has not been restored and likely looks now much as it did then.
