I wish people would learn how to spell...

We have all seen the many ways that the word 'hearse' can be misspelled.

Well, I found a new one!

Listed on eBay right now is a Matchbox 1963 Cadillak hearse.

Never seen Cadillac spelled wrong like that.

Should we give the seller a little leeway since he is from Bulgaria?
I don't think so. The Cadillac brand should be well enough known.

Link to the auction... here...
(If the sales link should not be posted in the general discussion section,
please remove the link if needed.)

lol
Good Morning Chuck
I think you had a bit too much coffee !!

maybe in Bulgaria they use a "K" like a "C" ???

ohhhhhh too funny but I do feel for ya....some people are just stupid.....simple as that ! lol

To his defence, many in Europe spell it like it sounds, notice his other items for sale to see other variations of spelling,it was one they tried here, their logic was, we will teach them to spell it like they think it sounds, and later teach them the right way,no you eggplants, teach my children the right way first.I am sure leaning to drive over here employs the same theory we will show them how to aim it,give it gas, than later how to properly drive.:stars:

This was never meant to be a personal attack. I know that many places around the world use different letters or spellings than we do in here in the United States. Heck, even our neighbours up north use some different spellings. :D 'mint condicione' is not the United States spelling of condition either. I just thought that the Cadillac brand would be well enough known that one would know how to spell it. Maybe Cadillac isn't as much a world brand as I thought.

Not to get political Charles, but we have allowed imports to come in by the boatload, yet exports don't seem to match,I fully understand your post and agree, thats why we can spell mercedes, suzuki, toyota, etc.and they can not spell cadillac.:soapbox::soapbox:

Now, now! Those that live in glass houses............ The spelling, grammar, and usage "ain't" always so great on this forum either!!

If the Cyrillic alphabet is generally used in Bulgaria,it'd be easy to throw in a "k" rather than a "c".Remember the '60s counterculture spelling "Amerika"?

Nope, not throwing stones...

I just found it interesting that for the first time, someone listed a hearse for sale and didn't misspell hearse, but misspelled Cadillac. I never thought about some of the reasons that have been given. I am sure that if United States English is not one's first language, it is easy to make spelling errors.

I am just so used to opening auctions for hearses and seeing, hurst, herst, herse and so many more. Just caught me off guard and I thought that it was interesting. Nothing personal, political or otherwise meant by the post.

After reading Wayne's one post though, it does bring up some interesting questions. We do see all the foreign auto manufactures names on a regular basis and thinking about it, one really does not hear of or see very many United States designed autos outside of North America. If we did not have such a worldwide selection of autos here, I am sure that we would not all be proficient in spelling Mercedes,Suzuki,Toyota, Hyundai, Kia and so many more...

Not throwing stones, but starting an interesting conversation about the distribution of Cadillacs. :D I think that is a little beter. :myopinion:

Apparently, one of the most popular brands of automobiles in China is Buick.

And we saw the Lincoln limousines used in North Korean leader Kim Jong Il's funeral.

While we tend to see a lot of "foreign" brands here, it's easy to overlook the popularity of "American" brands of cars in other countries, as well as the investments of American companies which own various manufacturers in other countries.

"Cadillac" is for Antoine de Lamothe Cadillac, he founded Detroit in 1701... well, a fort. I always heard that there was no correct spelling on family names but for a historical name used for a brand... Suppose it should be correctly spelled all over the world?

a response to stupid

I find the reference to those that cannot spell as being stupid insulting. You see I have a problem with spelling. I have gone through all sorts of special education to help with this problem. It has helped but doesn't solve the problem. You may have noticed that I do not make a great number of post. It has to do with the number of times I have had to put up with the negative remarks that those who think that they are smarter than others have been able to leave there mark. You see they are often able to bully others and it leaves a mark. For this reason it makes it difficult for me to write anything that others are going to read. The reason that they are able to get away with their bullying is simple, others let them. I have decided that I will no longer let them get away with it without my speaking up. If anything the lack of understanding that the ability to spell has nothing to do with ones intelligence shows if anything that the person making such a statement is the one that is stupid! By the way the definition of stupid when used as an adjective, as a stupid person, is: The lack of intelligence. As for my intelligence level, I now have found that I am of above average intelligence, as per my IQ score and the fact that I have also managed to earn not one but two Masters degrees, Thus I will not allow any bully to convince me that I am stupid just because I have a problem spelling! You see I wish people would learn how there remarks to put others down have there effects.

This thread was never meant to be a personal attack on anyone. It was not meant to refer to anyone being of a lower intelligence. The word stupid is a very strong word and I try to refrain from ever using it in conversation online or in person. It was not used in my original post and or any replies. My title for sure is one thing that I can see as being offensive. The comment about forgiving this gentleman is also another sentence that I should have left out. I see now how they could be taken the wrong way and I apologize for the way I worded them. I should have thought about it before clicking the submit button.

My original post was just a product of my not being able to sleep at 2am and perusing the eBay auctions for hearse related items. I assumed that Cadillac was enough of an international brand that people would know how to spell it. I was wrong. As mentioned before, we have all seen the misspellings of hearse, but I had never seen Cadillac spelled wrong. It was just an observation and nothing else.

Some interesting points have been brought up in the discussion about international distribution of automobiles and the use of alternative spellings around the world. Things that I had not thought of before posting this. Maybe that should have been the focus of the discussion and not the spelling.

I can not take back what was posted or how that post was interpreted. I will say though that I am sorry if I offended anyone. I should have thought about my comments before posting them and I will try to give all my future posts a once over to check the content. To put anyone down was never the purpose of the observation.

To Paul or any of the moderators able to take action on a thread. Please lock this thread. I would like the thread locked and not removed if possible. Enough people have read and commented on this that I would like it to still be available so that people can read Dan's comment in particular and my reply. Dan's words hit home with me and I understand completely what he is saying. I hope that others can see how powerful words can be, good and bad.
