i might need a whole lott of help at steve's

Thomas E Westfall - Deceased 1970 - 2017

July 7, 1970 ~ June 10, 2017
Well as I always say if nothing catastrophic happens the old travelall ambulance at Steve's might be coming home to Ohio. The problem is getting it onto the trailer. We have a large equipment trailer that might cause it too bottom out. We have the truck and trailer for the job. Besides the logistics of finding the day and time that's good for everyone. I'm sure it is not going to be easy to load and I hope the tires can hold air for a few minutes at least. We might need a backup plan. It is about 4.5 hour trip one way so time is going to be the enemy ok and rust, rot, gravity and so on. I really fell in love with the old rusty girl. Some people bring home stray animals and I bring home rusty ambulances. If I can figure out a day after thanksgiving maybe we could get some help.

Thomas, contact a rollback in Steve's area (he may know a cheap local). They can load it on the rollback easy and transfer to your tall trailer.

I have to do this from time to time with coaches that have obstructions hanging down and the ever so present locked rear drums. Usually tow companies don't charge much for this since they don't have to haul any distance.

This makes for a easy load n go scenario so that you get to enjoy your visit more on social point instead of working hard the whole time. :)

Yeah, I was going to say that, and I do have a tow service locally that I use. If the trailer has a winch and ramps, most likely we can get it on. The tow company can be a backup.

I was considering a flatbed as a backup loading option. I figure like always I will be traveling on a shoestring budget. I hope if I jack up the truck a can get air into the tires even just for a few moments to pull it around to the driveway because Dan wants to load it rear first to put the weight over the trailer axles. We are bringing his F350 diesel. My Silverado does not have a 5th wheel setup. I hope to find a cheap hood for it. Ugh I want this thing home so bad. I'll get her under cover and start my assessment on the motor and hopefully get her to turn over. I figure I will bring my compressor, jack, and all the fun recovery gear I have. It has been a long time since I had to do a recovery type haul.

snathblock

old trick I've used. attatch a snatch block to the front of the trailer and thread a cable back to a pulling vehicle and the truck and just pull. works and free.

If the tire beads are broken, jack them up one at a time, and use a small brush, and a can of white grease.brush it around the inside of the rim and the exposed tire bead.it helps to seal up the bead and prevent leaks.

I have done this many times, and it helps a lot.Caution-do not use bare fingers, the rim and the bead may have rust and or wires sticking out. I learned this the hard way!!!!Best of luck.I wish that i could be there to help.
