I haz a new hearse!

Happy Turkey Day everyone!

Yesterday I finally received my new 1973 Cadillac Superior combo. I LOVE IT!!! Looks like it was professionally repainted and almost all of the chrome is still in very good condition. There are a few minor things that will need to be replaced or fixed. It was dropped off at my mechanic's shop so he can go thru it and see if anything needs to be done.

And since this site is such a wonderful wealth of knowledge, I was wondering and hoping that ya'll could post any information you might know about this car? There isn't much online that I could find. Does anyone know the breakdown of how many of which models were made in 73? (how many end loaders, three ways, combos, flower cars, etc).

I have the breakdown of the VIN, and I also was able to get the original title that the funeral home had, so I know who it was commissioned for. Any other information would be greatly appreciated.

Can't wait to drive it! :17875:

congrats on your "NEW" 73

Nikki,
Congrats on getting a new coach. That one looks like a keeper.
Tom McPherson's book, Superior The Complete History, has some
numbers you are looking for. In 1973 the breakdown is:
Flower cars 32 page 362
End loading funeral coaches 507 page 365
3 way funeral coaches 140 page 365
combinations coaches 117 page 365
No breakdown on how many of the 117 combinations were limo or
landau style coaches.
Hope this helps.
Mike

Congratulations Nikki! Looks like a real sharp coach and I would guess that there are very few of these combos remaining. Enjoy it!

Congrats Nikki, it is a very fine looking combo. If you end up needing parts, I might know of one in a bone yard that might be a canidate. The 472 cid is a great engine and very reliable. At 100k miles change the timing chain and cam and crank gear. The rest should run for atleast 250k plus. I would recommend putting a magnet on the fuel filter to help catch some of the rust that could be in the fuel system. The car is beautiful, hope to see it in person someday.

I know the engine in my 71 is great and starts right up. No idea how long the 73 was sitting around, but we shall see how it runs too. I wish I was a mechanic so I could work on them myself. I know the basics, but not enough that I could get it put back together without having a bunch of "spare" parts left over, lol.

Nikki

Congrats girl !!!

I have the same car in a 3way ! Black with a grey interior.
Same front seat as you have.

You will dig it for sure.

Can't wait for our next visit. I will bring my '73 for that one.

Enjoy the ride,
Darren

P.S. I hope to see you on the site more often again too !!!

Almost looks like something "homemade", I've never seen factory bulbs fade like that. The color doesn't look real "true" if you know what I mean.

BTW.......HOT CAR!!!!!

I like it . It's intriging how these cars both served the dead and the living .

Very nice coach. I caught an earlier thread where you mentioned dad was having a cow over storage...just do like I did this year...I bought a pole barn and a house came with it:D

LOL, Good idea Jim. I live with my dad (I'm inheriting the house anyway) and two years ago he built a big lean-to on our barn for his tractors. Somehow, my hearse is there and he still parks his tractors outside. I guess he was afraid that I would start taking up room IN the barn too!
