Home from Hudson

Barb and I left a little earlier than originally planned and arrived home a short time ago. I can sum up the meet in one word AWESOME. The staff of the Ohio Chapter that put this together did a fine, fine job. We heard many people say this one is the best ever.

Yesterday they were thinking somewhere around 120 cars would be there. I would guess the final number today is much closer to 140, cars just kept coming and coming and coming all through the morning. I finally got to see some of the cars that appear on these forums up close and personal. Trust me, photos don't do them justice!

A word about those photos. We spent most of this morning sitting and watching the photo line. Watching the 2 Steves, Greg, Tom and Walt and the others "stage" these photos is a masterpiece. Steve Loftin does most of the staging and let me tell you he is very, very fussy about how the cars are "presented". All those photos he's shared with us here represent a lot of hard work and preparation.

Now, for the people. As a group of folks you're going to have to go along, long ways to find any better folks. We got to meet and visit with some old friends from Bucyrus, and met and visited with lots of new friends. I won't even attempt to name any or all, because I'd hate to leave anybody out. Never pass up a chance for a good "visit", it's good for you.

There was also a large contingent of Ohio National Guard members at the hotel getting some sort of "family briefing" prior to deployment. It was an honor to meet them and take the opportunity to thank them for their service. A finer group of young folks just don't exist. To all of them ".....Thank you for your service, we support you, and come home safely to us....".

Just got home a little while ago. Went well, jeremy moburg and kathy followed me to my neck of the woods. Then kept moveing on they still have about another 8 hours yet. But i just wanted to say it was a great time seeing old and new friends again. The team put on a awsome show:applause:. Now i have the addiction even more. Cant wait to see everyone again. How long till next year?:alc:

Russell, I haven't encountered a nicer, more polite group of young people than those National Guard members. Take time to remember who provides our freedom.

BTW pleasure spending time with you and Barb.

We got home awhile ago after a minor glitch along the way. This was our first meet and we would like to thank the Ohio Chapter for all of their hard work and dedication. We really had a great time. Putting faces with names, visting with great people, browsing the swap meet area, not to mention seeing the record number of cars. It doesn't get much better than that. Thank you.

enjoyed the meet!

I wanted to thank everyone for their hospitality and making me feel at home at the meet this weekend. Great group of people, a well done show, and some really, really beautiful cars. Thanks, Ron, for inviting me and thanks to everyone for their purchases and kind words.

Thanks to all--organizers and members for a great meet. Had a HOT ride home (as I'm sure all you non-air conditioner folks did) but all went well until Burlington, Ontario. Stalled at an intersection and the hearse wouldn't start due to vapour lock.....Two kind men help us to push it around the corner and under a shade tree. Started after about 10 minutes. Arrived home--10 hour drive.

Settled in Lexington, ky for the night. Stopped at welcome station after getting in KY to assist Josh and Tom Gentry after an apparent thermostat sticking for a while. We let it cool down and refilled and was ok so he is now almost home. Went down the road for a while and called it a day. Should be home with about 6 hours drive tomorrow.

OK, now my turn. As Russ said, we had a great time. We got to visit with some of our old friends, and made lots of new ones. The cars were pretty nice, but the people were the best. Lots of smiles and friendly faces everywhere we went.

To Ed, and Jeremy, thank you both very much for the Iris'. It was really a shock when you guys gave them to me. Paul and I had agreed to a swap, but you guys really surprised me. I've now got so many, I'm going to share some of them with my daughter-in-law. Thanks again.

I'm sure we'll all be seeing each other again at another meet or gathering.

We made it home Monday about 1:30 p.m. logging just under 2400 miles total. Terri and I had a great time and the Ohio Chapter did a fantastic job as expected. Used only 1/2 quart of oil and the A/C did it's job nicely. The old gal certianly did us proud!

See ya'll next year if we can make it!!! LOL!

Sat down and crunched the fuel numbers yesterday and from home back to home I logged 1,374.1 miles, purchased 139.163 gallons of fuel spending $498.00 paying anywhere from $3.42 to $3.85 a gallon and averaged 10 MPG! Not to bad in my book considering what I was driving! And I'm still amazed how the ole 73 ran and drove the entire trip! The car only used a quart of oil on the trip as well.

You probably would have gotten better mileage Jeremy if you kept it under the speed limit. Cruising at 75 mph with these boats eats the gas buddy! We averaged a little better at 12.5 mpg.

I didn't even bother to keep up with my miles but approx. 1600 and roughly $750 for gas getting about 8 to 10 with the van pulling about 10,000 pounds for trailer and 59 hearse. The hearse used no oil and neither did the van so I beat you there. Thanks to everyone who bought stuff from me at the meet as it paid for my week in ohio and couldn't have done it without some sales.

the last time I check our over all average had dropped to 19.8. it had gotten as high at 20.1 but stayed mostly in the 20.0. that rise of 2500 ft in elevation cut us down a little.

We made it home Tuesday afternoon. My back just couldnt handle the drive so we took our time. It was a great time, although I didnt get to see as many people as I would have liked, I spent half of the time in the hotel room in unbearable pain, so if I was short tempered with some of you I apologise, it was the pain talking. I was shocked that I took second place with my car, since it was not even supposed to be judged, I thought it was in too bad condition to wast the judges time, but in the excitment I forgot to mark not judged on my card.

Thanks to Paul Stienberg, ED Renstrom, Danny Ryder, and Bee Hamlin for helping with my expences, without you guys this event would have never been possible for me.

Thanks to the Ohiopeople for putting on such a great event!!

Sorry, I forgot to mention one more person for helping with expences, Mike Stevens. I do not know how I forgot you, you were the first one to help out.
