History of Superior Ambulance

An interesting look back into the 50’s. Growing up in the northwest corner (Edison Park area) of Chicago in the 1950’s, I used to chase CFD ambulance 7 and 20 or Squad 11 (the handsome, unique Autocar responding on an ‘inhalator’ call) on my bike. They wouldn’t make removals from a home so you’d wait for a CPD squadrol or private ambulance to arrive. Mercy Ambulance Service on Northwest Highway in Edison Park was the usual one to show and they had beautiful Cadillac cars, all robins egg blue. I wish I’d taken pictures but I was too young to even have a camera!
