Tony Karsnia - Deceased - 1971-2020
September 12, 1971 - November 2, 2020
Pink Champagne, our 1973 Superior Crown Sovereign combination, spent Halloween representing Dare's Funeral Home in Elk River, MN at the first annual Trunk N Treat hosted by the Minnesota School of Business - Elk River campus. The school contacted several area businesses, who got their creative juices flowing by designing and setting up Halloween displays in the parking lot, handing out treats from their trunks.
We were contacted by Ty Sunderman, manager of Dare's (the actual family name of the business), asking if we'd be willing to provide a hearse for the occasion, which we were. When I arrived at the funeral home, Ty had his "case" all prepared. Both he and the casketed gent were suited and ready for the evening wake. Once we were set up in the school parking lot, Ty spent the evening asking Trick or Treaters if they were brave enough to take a treat from the "brain bucket" held by the decedent.
It was hilarious to watch. Some kids were skittish and passed up candy altogether, some could be coaxed closer, while others bravely marched up like nobody's business. The display received rave reviews and hundreds (probably thousands) of pictures were taken, even by the local newspaper.
We won the Best Display trophy based on spectator voting, presented by the school, and were enthusiastically asked to return next year. We're already planning the enhancements...
