Grimes lights Full-Vu needed

Well it's the last parts needed for my '70. I need 2 unmatching Full-Vu lights, front driver and a rear passenger for a low top.
I spoke with a PCS member who is not on this forum last month about the difference between the Grimes used on low top and high top and he told me they were identical, it's just that they are installed more on the front on a low top. Any idea?

Hello Martin, I drove many 48" M+Ms with Grimes lights while working for Memorial Ambulance Service. We only had "highboys". I will alert my former employer Ray Nowak and ask him to respond to this post. Steve Loftin would certainly know because i discussed this very topic with him a few years back.

I have pictures of a 70 Cadillac M+M that I drove in 1979-81 at Memorial Ambulance. Can you post a picture of your car.

Best wishes,

Joe Van Volkenburg

They are NOT identical; you'll need ones from a '65-'70 lowtop or combination.

Is it that the lights are different, or that the skirts are different?

Skirts; there are several different castings. For instance, note the skirt differences between these two '66 models. The four on the lowtop are different from those on the hightop:

The first owner of my car have the original Grimes lights in hands, but wont sell them for any price :(

So I got the measurements of each light to be sure, that's how I had the chance to find a front/passenger and a rear/driver lights... So I now need the 2 opposite ones!

There were other changes made as the body style changed. For instance, check out the fender lights on these '70 and '71 models:

Some had I.D. plates on them as well and some didn't.

You can grind the base conture on the Ful-Vues. I've done it, didn't like to but I did a set this way to make them fit a car better.

now the truth comes out. to be honest they ground them to contour for each car as they mounted them. not one of the roofs would have the exact conture so the light people would cut each of them to sit square and the same height on every car. the cars were not way off no more then 1/4 inch from side to side front to back but they are all different . so the lights would have to be ground to fit each car. you get a set you will have to trim a little to square them up. as in this case the luck of the draw and going around the car found two that fit one side or the other.
