Grimes light other

For sale at the local antique mall is a Grimes light. This is not like any I have ever seen before. Seems to be a cast housing with a glass lens and 2 small diameter lights inside. This light is on a magnetic mounting base with a power port (cigarette lighter) type electrical plug. It is 12 volt. The asking price is
$135. Shipping would be extra. This could be delivered to Flint in Febuary. This is not a very tall light as you can see in the picture where I held it up.
Any interest PM me about the Grimes Hi-Flash light.

voltage

Russell,
the tag says 12 volt. The 12 is very prominent. the word volt is stamped very lightly in the silver area just past the number 12. You did see where this light has a cigarette lighter type plug? It also has a magnetic mounting base.

Grimes Light

Grimes made and marketed these lights for fireman and policeman back in the day. They were also sold and used by some fire truck builders, and were used by airport fire trucks also. This is only the 3rd one I've ever seen and the one I had sold for twice that. A good deal and a collector piece.

Sapulpa, OK had a pair of 1960 International/General pumpers. Until the Visibars were added in about 1970, the only warning light on each truck was a Hi-Flash beacon!

At least you could hear them...

We had several fire trucks here in town with one, minus the magnet. The New York State Thruway also used them on their trucks. (One of the truck mechanics for the Thruway was a member of the fire company, I wonder if that had anything to do with why the trucks had those lights!)

same bulb

Steve,
I don't know what bulb the Ful-Vu lights use. This Hi-Flash uses 2 small bulbs. They look like the replacement bulbs for headlights from cars of the
30s. The info on the back of the bulbs:

Grimes
A 7079 B
14V 40W 7401

I hope this info is of some help.
Mike

I hadn't noticed it before, but this ambulance has a Grimes Hi-Flash beacon on it as well.

(The ambulance is from Bowie Rescue Squad in MD. If you don't recognize the van, that's because it's a '60 Ford Thames, a British van. Why a Thames van became an ambulance in Maryland and who converted it are unknown to me.)
