Terri and I headed north to see Danny and pick up my Federal Q2B. The Criterion drove nice with very cold, not super cold A/C. I couldn't drive over 63 mph due to front end issues and actually got 11.9 mpg. Danny is a very gracious host. After visting with him in his auto shop garage, we headed north for dinner. I think Piqua, OH might have been closer but enjoyed a great Italian meal. Then off to his personal "Garage Mahal" somewhere in Georgia. I tell you, Danny is now known as "NASCAR Danny". This man can fly through the hills running well over the speed limit and while the three of us are gasping for air and something to hang onto, he takes it with ease. Touring his hometown of Jasper and seeing all the funeral homes in town, and most importantly going by the motel where Jeremey and LeeAnn stay when their there, very important to know. We advance to his garage. He has that beautiful 70 combo he drove as a kid. His father's pick-up, another combo about ready to go for paint, and so much old funeral stuff he got out of an attic of a funeral home, it was overwhelming. Baby caskets from the 40's and 50's still in crates, old lamps and backdrops used in home visitations, and a host of other stuff. If you are looking for this stuff you need to call him to see what he has. On our way back to pick up the Criterion he passes by his body shop to show us a 1960 Pontiac ambulance he recently sold. It was pretty sharp.
But, nothing compared to the Criterion sitting in his garage. Granted it needs a bit of work but he has transformed this thing into a nice piece. Lights work, siren works, motor runs quiet with no smoke, horn works, inside lights work, and it even has brakes that work. Congratulations Danny and keep up the great work on that ambulance. You have to remember this: "CRITERION-there is not substitute!"
Great weekend!
