Funeral paraphernalia question

I got a call from one of the cemetaries the other day saying they had some assorted "junk" for me to remove.

Aside from rusty pieces of scrap and one piece of farm equipment, there was ALOT of temporary grave markers, with the movable letters, in immaculate condition.

I spent a couple hours removing all the lettering and storing it in a box, out of respect, didnt want anyone walking into the garage and reading them.

Also there were some large brass markers and such, but they had permanent names and dates on them, so I obliterated the lettering and disposed of them, again trying to be respectful. I figured nobody wanted their Grandmothers marker used in a neighborhood Halloween decoration.

The temporary markers are reusable, I was wondering if there is any demand for them? I know they probably would not be used as a display in a car show, but I thought I would ask. They are in very nice shape but obviously the stakes have some corrosion.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

There is a collector out there for EVERYTHING EVER MADE !

Someone would like them.

Stuff like that make great items for PCS swap meets and gatherings where people buy, sell and trade unique stuff.

Bring it along sometime or post photos in the for sale section.

We still use that type of temporary grave marker. We have boxes of letters(like in a printer's box) that we put the persons name, birth year, and death year in the marker. There is a thin long piece that fits in the bottom that has our funeral home name in it. You put the back on it which is secured by 2 screws, and that holds everything in place. There is also a 1 or 2 prong stake that is on the back, so you can push it in the ground to keep the marker in place.

Many funeral homes re-use these when they get them back. Most of the time they are placed in the cemetery free of charge, and they are not cheap, so re-use helps keep funeral costs down

The funeral home I worked for sold these for $25.00 as a temporary marker. I would be interested in them, in that I am documenting the local cemetery and many have been hit by the mower and I could use them to replace the damaged ones. PM me and we can see what can come about.:smileflag:
