Fuel "economy"

Went for a drive to meet fellow PCS member David Stein who was in New Brunswick for a few days. Took the opportunity to check fuel consumption for the trip.

I may have driven in Drive vs Overdrive for most of the first half of the trip, I need to adjust the gear indicator.

Anyhow, here is the data for the first half of the trip when I fueled up on my way back home...

Distance driven: 139 miles
Highway speed ~ 75 - 80 mph
54.46 liters to fill-up

11.6 miles per Imperial Gallons
9.65 miles per US Gallons
24.3 l/100kms

Is this ballpark what I should be getting for fuel consumption? The engine is 500 cid.

That sounds about right to me as well with my experience with several similar vehicles.

Try it again with overdrive. And hold the speed around 100 k. 60 mph I would expect 11-13 out of it. The 500 in those years was a low compresion engine. Lot of smog stuff on it.

Getting about 8 to 9.5(65-70MPH) on crappy California gas and keeping my lead Nike shoe in check......
