Fork Trouble

Been hearing a little noise with the clutch in on the 53. So as we pick up the small stuff thought i had better drop the cove and see how bad things are. The cluch fork has worn threw the ends and it barley catching the throw out bearing. I can't find a exchange for it. The Hollander number for the plate and disk is a 307. My older book is a 54 so it lists 38-53 pon chevy and light truck. But comparing pictures the fork is different on chevy. Both my spotted parts cars are power guide. So no help there. Gm used the same throw out bearing for 50 years across the lines so a new one is easy to get. Anyone got a ida.

don't have it out yet. I hate working with heavy iron. but the pictures in the man-u-will are right on.

got stuff apart today. bad as I thought we will need a or should replace the pressure plate. it has it cut down to razor thin. the throw out bearing was frozen as I suspected and was spinning on the support. now to find parts. we can build the fork back up if we have to and make it work. the throw out bearing is waiting down town. but can't find the other pieces labeled Pontiac.

so we took a shot in the dark. looked it up in Kantor they clame the clutch was the same from 33-87. the listed the throw out bearing down town as 38 and up. the sedan delivery and taxie is listed as the same by them self. a 10 inch 10 spling. I orded as close to that as we could get from a 60 bonaville down town so if we got it way wrong it could go back. it's about 1/2 in bigger and the presser plate is 1/8 inch higher. the throw out bearing in about 1/2 in longer., but the bolt pattern was the same as was the pilot bearing. decided to see if we could stuff it in place. got it in with no difficulty. then spent from 2 to 4:30 trying to get the trannie in to teh pilot bussing. Yes I had a aliment tool used it twice. I just could not hit the the hole right for the pilot bushing. finaly in desperation I put both feet agent the transmisinn and wiggleed it back and forth and up and down and it slipped in place. did I tell you how much I hate heavy iron? but not knowing if we could make the 60 clutch work I could not farm it out. no maybe Friday we can button it up and drive it around some. been a nice winter so far. hot and dry.

finally got all the pieces back on the car, except one. never did figure out were it went or how. funny thing was that everything I put in was bit larger then what I took out of it but I had to adjust the clutch up to get it to release enough to go into first. but now it slips right in and the wheels spin the spedo-meter records. forced to drive it around again.
