Flxible Reunion, Loudonville, OH

Jim Tighe - Deceased 1942 - 2012

March 10, 1964 - April 27 2012
The bi-annual Flx reunion will be held this year July 15-18 in Loudonville. This event is geared more to the buses than the coaches, but sometimes a coach or 2 will appear. The parade thru town on Sat. is a real hoot, literally, with lotsa air horns yelling. Some of my fondest early childhood memories involve riding in the Flxible Clippers of the ABC Coach Lines in eastern Indiana. I can still hear the driver running her thru the gears, and the response from the valve-in-head straight-8 Buick engine in the tail of the rakish machine.

Flxible Reunion

Dan, back in Decatur in '88, there was a '62 Electra limo present, and no one knew anything about it. And unlike the one you picture here, that one was of hardtop pillarless construction. No one was even sure that Flx had built it.

So, 22 years later, those cars are still mysteries?? I have a FLX history here, and will look into the matter, but am not hopeful. I will try to do some brain-picking, tho, at the reunion. There are always "old hands" present, so we shall see.

Several years ago, I went down to that and found that those there were very cold towards the subject of procars. They're bus people exclusively. I was quite disappointed and have never gone back.

Keith, I am sorry you had that experince there. It is certainly bus-oriented, but I don't recall the treatment you received. I understand your reaction, tho. That cold stuff is never pleasant. I remember some of it in '87 at New Hope, where the pro cars had their own section within the larger show. Maybe 'tis worth another try? I like the buses enuf to go for that reason alone. Tis esp neat when a Clipper shows up with the orig Buick straight-8 aboard. Ain't many of those left.

Jim - The local funeral director in Loudonville has a very nice white 1964 Premier combination. That alone is worth the drive down there. When I was there for the reunion there were quite a few Clippers around but, most have been converted into RVs and are no longer really busses - if you know what I mean. The people weren't interested in anything else that Flxi did and certainly didn't want to talk about procars. But, perhaps you're right. It's not that far and may well be worth another try.

The info I have is that there where 2 built by Flxible ,both sedans . Thanks if if have the time to check it out.

I have a pic somewhere of the hardtop limo. it might be in the album I loaned to Ron Devies when he came to look at the '64 M-M. Ask Tony K if he has a pic of the car from Decatur in '88, as he took a lot of pics I believe. As best I can recall that meet, no one I talked to even knew who had brought the car there. A real enigma wrapped in a riddle inside a mystery................

Jim, here's the photo of the Buick limo that was at the Decatur meet. As you can see, it's a '64, not a '62. But you're right, it was a "hardtop" limo, very interesting. There was no identification on the car as to who built it, so it's anyone's guess.

I do have the name of the owner, who was from St. Louis, and the names of the guys who brought it there. I'm not sure they are PCS members so I won't put their names on the internet without their permission.

Well, seems i can't keep some of the details straight anymore, don't it? '62, '64, whatever. Yes that is the Decatur Mystery Car. Thanx for the photo. Maybe we could write a play called "Mystery Becomes Electra?" Maybe not.........

I believe that the photo posted by Steve may well have been built by National of Knightstown. I have seen similar cars that were built by National. As far as I know Flxible only built one or two Buick limos in 1962.

I think, back when we saw it in '88, we tossed around National and also Armbruster as possibilities. Nobody had a definitive answer, though.

Steve, somewhere I have photos of an Eectra hardtop limousine built by National. There are some 35mm photos as well as a factory photo of one of these. and is a 1966 model. It has closed rear quarters with dumb-looking, after-market landau irons on the sial panels. Other-wise it looks quite similar to that in your photo. If I were a betting man, I place my money on it being a National.
