Fixing-up my FW Model 28

The stretcher currently in my 54XL is a FW Model 28 manufactured in 1973. It was given to me a few years back and was missing the mechanism to release the undercarriage when loading it into the ambulance.

Today's project was to fix that problem. Since I had the mattress off I took the opportunity to replace some of the loose rivets that hold the mattress crossbars. Many were loose and some were missing.

Using a metal flat bar and some aluminum plate I had in my scrap pile I used the diagram from a modern (2004) FW Model 28 to figure out what was missing and got to work.

The result is not as fancy as it would be if the replacement parts were original, but my contact at Ferno said that they have been out of stock for the older M28s for a while. I still have to get better fasteners for the final assembly, but it will do for now.
