Federal signal siren help

I was given two things by a VFD. One is a bumper mount siren (Federal Enterprises EG) and a beacon type light. I was told both work. The siren out of the beacon light does work but I was unable to get the motor to spin( probably wiring issues). The bumper mount siren is a 6v DC and the car 68 Pontiac is a 12v. I need help getting it wired properly. Just for Info, the equipment was a 68 Suburban.

Worked when taken off how long ago? The speaker light are nice cleaned up. If it s till has the speaker in it i would us a electric siren with it. Then put the 6 volt on the shelf. The 5 inch ones work good for parades. But not something you want to work hard.

He tested it before I got it. The 6v bumper mount one will be used an small occasions and parades. Im getting an electrical one for other sound effects

but how can wire the 6v to 12v

You put it in like it was 12 volt. It will just spin a lot faster so don't hold down on the switch foe a long time. Current draw is heavier then most of the voltage drop resisters can handle. I have one in 12 volt that is under the hood of my 72.

Short of a carbon pile such as the stack used in forklifts for speed control no resistor will shed the heat caused by running the siren.

Perhaps a headlight lamp in series with the siren will sustain short runs, you'll need to experiment.

Oddly this may be one of the few times when corrosion on connections will be your friend.

I tested it quickly on my truck. It spun up fine and made a ton of noise. I have sense found a 12-6v 30a converter that i will use
