Famous People

I thought this would be an interesting thread if anyone will participate. Who is the most famous person you've ever had in your ambulance, limousine or hearse? And let's try to keep it respectable...;)

Sinatra & Co

When we closed the funeral home, I drove chartered buses for a while. One of my trips was to Des Moines Airport to pick up a late night flight that came into the private side of the airport. Aboard were Frank Sinatra, Frank Jnr & his wife, the opening comedian whose name escapes me at this time and the band members. They took one look at my nameplate on the header panel and said 'looks Sicilian' - we are in good hands! I did have the privilige to attend the backstage festivities and dinner the next night before the concert. The band manager took a liking to me and after the early supper, we went up to Frank's suite and were personally introduced. A very memorable weekend, plus the tips were excellent. To tie it to this thread. Frank himself left the concert in a limousine chartered by our bus company to go a different direction than the band and entourage. It's something I will never forget!:D

Twenty years ago, I used to drive for a local limousine service that had the contract for the annual Music festival at the Seattle Center on Labor Day Weekend. I've driven Jerry Seinfeld, Little Richard, Karla Bonof, Randy Newman. Michael MacDonald, The Smothers Brothers, John Hiatt

Walt McCall

I had the extreme honor of Walt McCall picking our former (X-Moffat County Memorial Hospital / Craig CO) 1956 Meteor-Cadillac Ambulance to drive along with former PCS President, Evan Butchers riding "shotgun" at one of the Go-West Events. Although I was not driving them, I got to watch that was just as good.... maybe better! MM

Santa Rode in Mine Also

Famous Riders:

With my 1988 five door limousine by H&E was used by Santa Claus as his official limousine in the Christmas night, sponsored by our Chamber of Commerce. Was escorted by a police car running code 3 and my limousine had its red and blue flashing lights behind the grill and wigwag headlights ablaze.

My 93 Cadillac LW limousine made monthly trips to downtown Chicago tearooms with its former owner and the widow of Mayor Richard M. Daley Senior.

In mid August of this year we had a delegation from the Government of Mali that came over to visit our Communications Centre as part of a fact finding mission regarding our Health Care System. Behind the building, we had a displayed one of our administrative Ford Fusion, a new Fort Type II (High Rise Van) and of course my 67 Superior.

The head of the delegation, the Health Minister and his group thought that the 67 was quite a neat piece of history. I think that most of them had their picture taken either besides the car or behind the wheel. I even had to turn the lights & siren on for them before they left.

Famous people

I'm not sure if they were famous, but my '72 Superior Cadillac High-Top was in a movie in which 4 nurses were all stabbed to death in the patient compartment. The previous owner said it was quite a "bloody" mess. He doesn't remember the name of the movie though :(

In my short career of selling funeral cars part time, I took in on trade the 1984 Superior Cadillac that made the removal on Robert Smith...aka Wolfman Jack...

My '67 ambulance had Gretchen Mol "no-nuts" in Life On Mars, right in the stretcher.

'72 Caddy Limo had a couple of famous actors/actresses in it for the Spike Lee movie Talk To Me. That was a good movie, BTW.

I had David Letterman do a skit at my used car lot back in '96. No procars, but it was funny as hell. And they bought the car and paid me for a day's work. Talk about right place, right time.

Another time we rented a light gray step-van that they threw a guy out of the rear door in Sopranos.

The President

I drove The President somewhere (cant remember where) in my 85 Superior FWD. Ok, so it was not THE President, but it was OUR Prez, Brady Smith.:D

famous or infamous

I have had Gregg Merksamer riding in my 61 MM. He was taking pictures of an MM reunion parade and meet. Does that count?

My '67 ambulance had Gretchen Mol "no-nuts" in Life On Mars, right in the stretcher.
My '70 M-M Volunteer also worked on "Life on Mars". Jason Mara, the star of that show, did a scene in the car. I also took a photo of "LoM" co-star Harvey Keitel next to the ambulance - he played "Speed" in "Mother, Jugs, and Speed." I didn't get to meet Gretchen Mol, though. :(

I taught Noah Wyle ("ER"'s "Dr. Carter") to drive the stick shift on my '54 Studebaker (the Ambulet, without lights/sirens), which he drives in the movie "An American Affair". Ironically, that movie also stars Gretchen Mol - but I didn't get to see her that time, either! :(

Aidan Quinn was in a scene that takes place in the back of our '47 Flxible Buick ambulance in the movie "Avalon" in 1988. My father drove the ambulance in that scene.

Though he wasn't in the car, I think many folks know that Dan Ayckroyd stopped by the PCS International Meet in 2000 in Kingston, ON, and I talked to him in front of my '60 Flxible Buick ambulance.

large funeral in the 1960s

My family firm's 1965 Superior Cadillac combination (all-black) was used for the funeral of former UN Ambassador/Presidential candidate Adlai E Stevenson II in Bloomington, Illinois, in July of 1965. The Stevenson family requested a brand-new, all black, funeral coach for the service, and ours was the only one in the area. Dad had another service that day, so we traded vehicles with Beck Memorial Home in Bloomington, Illinos, so that the family request could be provided. I still have the Bloomington Pantagraph newspaper story of the day's events.

other famous or infamous

I have also had Shelley Stevens and Junita Baker in my coach. They are famous in dulcimer music. Does this count?

You wouldn't believe me if I told you.........

.....well maybe some of you who have seen the rogues gallery at my place would.

its been quite a few years.......

Back in 1965, our 1965 Superior Cadillac combination was used in Bloomington, Illinois, for the funeral of US Ambassador to the United Nations-- Adlai E. Stevenson II, who ran for President against Dwight D. Eisenhower in both 1952 and 1956. The Stevenson family requested a brand-new, all black coach, and Dad's was the only one in the area.

I also had Santa Claus on our 1954 American LaFrance pumper for last year's Christmas parade. (Santa brought me almost everything I had asked for!)
