Ever stand on a car lot and they almost had what you wanted?

Must have been a similar scenario with this Miller Meteor customer. Check this out.

Nothing too noteworthy here, right? Wait a second - what is on the inside>>>>>

Limo style. Oh. Panels must be removable.

Negative. Crude weld seem (shown) originally covered by padded top made for a fixed landau. Would have been easy to pass up if this detail weren't caught. The fact that interior wasn't changed goes to show the lengths at which Miller Meteor went to meet a customer's request. I'd imagine in this case it was fulfilling an order as cheaply as possible!

Not showing for condition, rather how things were done by the factory. Variations are a part of what makes our coaches fascinating.

Seen this before! Most likely this wasn't done at M-M but at the dealer, just like you said to make the sell on this car! I've seen a couple done like this before. I know Doug Scott out in L.A. will do this to a Forrest Lawn limo style car to make it easier to sell. What year car is this?

I wouldn't be so sure that this was done by Miller Meteor. The inside picture shows the car has sign holders in place. It is possible that this modification was done afterward by the coach dealer, or the funeral director had a body shop remove the glass and install metal panels and padded roof. I believe that the car was finished and the interior was installed along with the sign holders. I doubt that they would have gone back and made a drastic change like this. Wouldn't the cars data plate offer proof as to what the car's original manufactured configuration was?

the crude seam is standard for a car with vinyl top. they all look like this. but the finished inside is not. but what you don't see inside either is a mystery. were is the pinch weld that the glass would sit into?
you get the interior a part and you see that they were all Limo style and they just filled the blanks. that was normal 70s construction.

Did some more digging before responding.

Owner purchased from funeral home and maintains it was originally purchased from Miller Meteor this way. Their previous coach was severely damaged and a replacement in livery colors was needed quickly.

That's the story anyway. Below are pictures for further assessment. It is a '65.

Peeling passenger side back, wood is visible in lieu of glass.

Crude roof welds ended up not being correlated to 'conversion'. Rather, fine attention to detail was taken. Note how removable panels have countersunk rivets for flush fit. Sail panels were then placed over finished roof.

And the important ID plate (barely legible):

Factory or aftermarket...each possible.

it shows as a duplex with a wrinkle painted roof. this would be a fine example of meeting the needs of a Home. grab one that was finished and not spoken for and convert it to what the buyer wanted . it would have been a limo sty combo with a wrinkle roof but went out a a landau with a vinyl roof
