As it's likely that many EMS-affiliated PCS people will be taking part in 9-11 commemorations today, I'm proud and pleased to convey the news that Chuck Myers, an 87-year-old PCS member from Eldred, NY (you might recall his model ambulance display at the 2011 Intl. Meet in Ohio), has already shown the rest of us how to do it, as evidenced by a moving Jeff Goulding photo on page 3 of today's TIMES HERALD-RECORD, which is published out of Middletown, NY about 70 miles northwest of NYC. The image I speak of, viewable on-line at http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pb...o=910009992&Ref=PH&Presentation=desktop#img-4, shows Chuck playing taps on his brass bugle at a sunset Tuesday, September 10th ceremony honoring first responders at Highland, NY's Heroes Park, which is centerpieced by a steel beam salvaged from the World Trade Center. Steve Israel's accompanying article (viewable at http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20130911/NEWS/309110330/-1/NEWS) details Chuck Myers - in addition to being a member of American Legion Post 1363 - has been driving ambulances for 65 years, handling his first call in a (presumably Henney-built) 1936 Packard ambulance in 1948. Asserting "this ceremony in this small town could serve as a model throughout America," Highland Supervisor Andy Boyak was one of several speakers expressing the opinion that "it's time to designate a day to recognize and show appreciation for our first responders, firefighters, police and EMT(s) whenever called all year long." I'm sure many of you would agree that September 11th would be the ideal day to do this on an annual basis.
