Dying a seatbelt?

Jeremy D. Ledford

Has anyone ever tryed to dye a seatbelt? I've got a navy blue one that needs to be black for the 77 M-M. That's all I could find as a replacement so far that will work so I was wondering if one could be dyed and how. Tried to soak it in Rit dye the other night and that would not take. Is there any other way?

I have used Vinyl dye spray paint from an auto body supply. It goes on like spray paint, but when it dries, you can't tell it was painted. It should work on a seat belt or any interior winyl. Check with a body supply shop to see what they have.

black permanent felt marker will do it well. you don't want to boil it in water and you want something that will not build up on the belt of flake off. you just paint it it will get stiff. hook it up high and put a weight on the buckle to pull it down and doddle away. just keep some air moving or you'll have a headache for a week
