Friday night and yesterday, there was a traditional pre 1964 drag race get together at the Great lakes dragway, in union grove wi. Put on by the guys from the Hunnert car pile up. "Yes that spelling is right"
It was a pretty good turn out Friday night, but Saturday is when it was the main day with lots of cool old hot rod, and straight axel gassers, and just old cars racing. They also did a good part of the race, just like the old days or racing with a flag guy dropping the flag start.
Well we watched it for most of the day and hanging out in the stands with a lot of friends and guys from my "hoodlums car club" we started talking smack about racing some of my friends. Last time I did that was a few years ago with my 62 Chrysler 300. So my club brother with his 38 chevy, I told him if he can talk to tech guy to let us run I will race.
So as you can see he did it and I raced my old tank. Three times down the track. The crowd loved seeing it get on the track and they loved seeing it smoking its tires before I ran down the track.
my runs I did get beat by my buddie in his 38 chevy by reaction time. He was doing about a 2500rpm hole shot with his car. I just brake torqued up the Pontiac in drive. And the Pontiac with its two barrel is not super responsive right away. His chevy has a later model 235 with multi carbs and split manifolds, and straight pipes.
My second run was against another buddie in his big block powered 60 chevy. So I knew he was going to blow the doors off of me and he did by about two seconds. No surprise but still fun.
The third run I did I ran another buddie with his 54 chevy, with a 235 and three carbs. That is the race that I beat him pretty good. hee hee
The car ran about 70.84mph in the quarter and a funny 18.807 best time with a slow .775 reaction time on my part.
Friday night a late model superior hearse that was running a turbo LS motor was running at about 10 seconds with a full interior. Grreat to see that car run.
but it was a fun day and I still was able to drive the car home with out any broken parts, Just a good hand full less tread on my tires. But that is always a given with my cars. I always love to keep our tire companys in business.
