Does this sound TOO good?

Looks to be a heck of a deal!! Ask him for specific photos, if interested. If it is not his and in his posession, he will not be able to produce them.
 
It might be legit, losing storage on a vehicle that size in california especially if he lives in bad or strict community could spell vandalism or even tickets and confiscation of the vehicle if stored in plain view or by neighbor complaints. Hearses are not always viewed as collector cars by the general public. They tend to have that creepy factor to most people so more often than not they want to see it gone.
 
at a glance it would appear to be a Barnette. the round tops on the doors are a give away. but a 50s car in this condition. it's a vary realistic price. I would bet a man could with a grand cash could bring it home. it's most likely a combination with all the glass. most were. if your interested ask him for a shot of the back door. if it hinges off the right it's all most certainly a Barnette. just to put the price in prospective I'm up to 3 grand on plating and have the bumpers yet to go.
