I don't worry as much about the car being stolen, as I do having parts stolen off the car. For this reason, I am very careful where I park my car at cruise ins and other places. I remember someone a number of years ago looking for a gas cap to replace the one that he had stolen from his early 1960's Miller Meteor. When I saw Mike Steven's car still had its original gas cap, I suggested to him that he should look for a spare in case he should ever loose his. It took me 2 years of looking just to find a replacement for my gas cap on the Pinner that was in very poor condition. I purchased a few on ebay that looked correct in the pictures, but when they arrived, they didn't fit. Now, I have the correct one in the original packaging, so I also know what else it fits since it is marked on the box. I will continue to look for a second one for a spare. Same for the red side lights. One of the lenses fell off while washing the car, and could have easily broken. I also have picked up spare lenses for that.
When we visited the Chrysler Museum in Michigan they had a Prowler on display, and it was missing a bunch of parts. I asked the attendant why, and he said that it was "trophy" hunters stealing pieces off of it. I guess that is why all the cars were roped off sufficiently that you couldn't just reach over and take something. Some trophy hunter stole the dedication plaque off of my Pinner before I got it along with some other items. I have been able to replace everything except for the dedication plaque. Someone in the fire department is looking for it for me. Hopefully some day it will be reunited with the car.

Stolen parts as well

:thumbsdown:Before I found my '53 Pontiac/Barnette some idiots had taken the hood ornament (damaging the stainless waterfall trim in the process), the horn button, the "Pontiac Eight" script from above the glove box, and the headlight buckets (go figure...they left the headlight trim though?).

Thankfully they left the 3 "Barnette" scripts...I don't know where I'd have been able to find replacements (and would still like to find some). They also left the siren/light alone.

I'll be in Modesto this Friday evening for a "cruise in" of vintage and current emergency vehicles, and will spend the night there to attend the emergency vehicle show in the town of Ripon the following day. Since many of the attendees are police officers with their, or their department's, cars, I'm not too worried about my rig spending the night in the hotel parking lot. Modesto P.D. will be keeping an eye on our vehicles as well. I had no idea that Modesto ranked #1 in vehicle thefts for the entire country.

There's no reason to worry about any size, type of vehicle to be stolen. I met a guy a few years ago who had what I thought was an unusal key fob.

I asked him about it and it turned out to be the connector for a Ravelco system. I investigated it online and they claim after years of use there's NEVER been a vehicle with the system installed that was succesfully stolen.

Yeah sure a Tow truck can still the dirty deed but as far as Column punching, Hot wiring etc. It won't work without the connector being inserted first.

And in case you're feeling secure with Onstar? That little shark fin on the roof is easily broke off rendering it useless. :D

I lost the 86 for about 6 hr one day. they the man brought it back and parked in in a different lot. working with off base people is nothing but fun.
