I see on EBay that there's a 1987 Cadillac Dimmer's and Phil's hearse for sale. The ad says that this hearse conversion company went out of buisness in 1987 and no one knows how many of their hearses are still around. Has anyone ever heard of this company? Does anyone own one? Jim

I saw this coach on eBay too, but just assumed it was a mistake in the listing. I think it's a Demers built funeral car judging from the coach lines, landau bars, and sconce. That, and Dimmers is awfully close sounding to Demers. No idea where the "Phil's" comes from unless there really is a Dimmer's and Phil's coachbuilder out there, but I couldn't find any reference to one.

Demers

I beleave Adam is right, I think its a Demers coach. I can't find any information on any Dimmers and Phills. One things for sure, in my opinion, it is not an atractive coach at all. I don't like the short wheel base look. It looks to be cheeply built.

on a side note, have any of you heard of Collins? I just snagged a 82 Cadillac Hearse with what appears to be a Collins body on it. 4.1 liter V-6, appears to be woefully underpowered for the size of car. Needs a little bodywork (rust) and a new vinyl roof (its presentable from 50 feet....) will take a little time to tune it up and mess with it when the snow lets up...;)

Collins coaches are fairly comin, it seems they did a lot of Lincoln and Mercury conversions, and some Cadillacs too. I beleave they did another one also, but I can't remember what. I have some info around here somewhere, I'll see if i can dig it up.

Demers & Phils

I believe that the official name for Demers is Paul Demers and Fils- Fils is either French for sons or daughters can't remember which - Kevin

Look closer, the 4.1 should be a V-8.
Collins later bought the Miller-Meteor name and began marketing the cars as such. My 1991 Miller-Meteor Lincoln Paramount is actually built by collins.

The same people who say "hearst" or "hurst" or spell it "herse" are now mutilating French! "Dimmers and Phils" vs Demers & Fils.....gotta love it!.......More chlorine for the gene pool, please!

Yeah, I love it, too. Nothing like spelling foreign words just like they are pronounced (except, of course, the French word "fils" is pronounced "feese", rhymes with "geese").

Actually, maybe this guy's buddy Phil built it, and then they realized they were "dim and dimmer", and so it goes!

It sounds like he did look close, yes Cadillac did have a 4.1 version of the Buick V-6.

I stand corrected, thanks! I never knew a 4.1 V-6 existed for the full size Cadillacs. Looking in my Cadillac book confirmed this was an option. I wonder what the thinking was for a 4.1 V-6 in a full size Cadillac was considering the 4.1 V-8 was underpowered enough, although the V-6 came in at 252 ci and the V-8 was only 249 ci, same HP but a little more torque.
