Day Late and a Dollar Short

Wednesday, I'm going parts-shopping at a rescue squad that is moving. I'm going to help "clean out" their old station.
I posted the above in another thread, with great hope and excitement.

I got my start riding ambulances at the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad in 1980, and was a member there until 1993. I learned a lot about EMS there, but mostly I learned a lot about dealing with people. The station was a converted garage that had been expanded in the '60 and again in the '70's, but was always just a bit too small.

On Saturday, WVRS will be moving into their new station, decades in the making and the first station built from scratch for them. I'm happy for them, and am looking forward to attending the dedication.

I'm on the e-mail list for the WVRS alumni. One of the e-mails that went out Monday mentioned that they would be throwing out "old stuff" Wednesday (yesterday). So I e-mailed the Deputy Chief, who I know, and he said to stop by Wednesday, he'd be there, and I could get any of the EMS items they would be disposing of. That's how "old stuff" becomes "antiques". ;)

I called him yesterday before I went down. He told me that he looked through and all the old EMS equipment had been thrown away last weekend. :4_11_9: :pat:

And this is how "old stuff" becomes trash (in that county, it goes to the power plant incinerator) and how our rare "antiques" become even more rare.... Grrrr....

Steve, that photo is fantastic. Converted buildings are fantastic for nostalgia reasons. For me, old funeral homes (mostly home oriented, not built or purpose, old fire stations, old rescue squads, and old radio stations (ONLY if the tower is on the same property) what flashbacks... thanks... sorry they threw your stuff away...

one, will in this case many mens treasure is another's junk. darn but it happens all the time. each of us should touch base with locale places and let them know maybe the next time it cane be I'm tossing you want come get it now.

Sometimes ya can't help but wonder if stuff gets thrown out early because someone finds out that there is someone interest in it and wants to save it.
