Curtain Material

I have sent my ambulance curtains to a seamstress to have them re-done. I have found material that is similar to what the curtains are mad of, but it is not as thick as the original one.

I have done a search on this forum for more specific information, but I have not found the name of the material that I should ask for when I go to the fabric shops.

Does anyone know what is the proper name of the fabric used for the ambulance curtains?

from what I have seen they use a heavy type only found on couches in the 70's. my folks has a hide a bed when we were growing up that had had the same stuff on it. in the MM CB they used the same material on the seats and door panels. the superiors I have been in to used different stuff on the curtains then the rest of the car. you may be looking in to high a end of fabric. I swear I fond the vary fabric of the curtains on my 71 superior at walmart. maybe not has heavy but the same pattern in two shades of gold. they have a white nylon that is vary close to the airplain style used in ambulances to.

I'll go for a trip to Walmart to check out what they have. The material I got looks an feels very similar, bit I am afrais that it will come apart when driving with the windows open.

Since Ed, mentioned the source, (Walmart) I have gone to every store in the greater Metro area only to find out they have discontined the department. There even was a "Save the fabric department' roster for people to sign this petition to do so. maybe in South dakota they still might have a fabric department. Ed should know.

Jean-Marc, I live near Fall River Massachusetts, a city well known for many mills specializing in clothing and curtains. There are several curtain outlets still in business in the city. If you can send me a sample I will look for you.

They dropped the fabric sections at Walmarts in Toronto too.

I went to FabricLand here in Toronto and bought some black material to make curtains for a hearse I have. The lady who made them did a great job but they faded to a nasty brown in a couple years from the sun.

I would recommend a polyester that would hold up better if you can find something close to what you are looking for verses a cotton.

I would rather have nicer curtains that will last verses something thin that may not be around long like you say.

Drapery is likely the best option for material.
I would try some stores that make drapes or sell that type of thicker material.

Curtains

I found this at at a local fabric store and have seen the same material on some on line stores. It was heavy and a pattern on both sides.
