Crosley Pro-Car?

The posting last week of a Crosley Ambulance might not have been too far fetched based on an article in current (May 2010) Hemmings Classic Car Magazine. It looks they would have built almost anything a customer would order.... (besides) normnal production models... of a pickup, covered wagon, station wagon, sedan delivery, panel delivery and convertible. So a small plant ambulance that was shown built from their standard production panel delivery model could very well have been? In 1941 this model sold for: $449.00

Besides automobiles and pickups, Crosley also made Shelvador Refrigerators, "Feather Touch" Electric Magnetine Radios, "Reado" Facsimile Radio Printers (whatever that was).... Crosley Cameras including the "Press Junior" Model, Gas & Electric Ranges and Washers, and Electric Ironers "at Crosley Dealers everywhere"! Powel Crosley Jr. started inventing things at age 14 from $8.00 he borrowed from his younger brother. By 1930 he was a multi-millionaire attorney and owned a 500,000 Watt Super Staton touted to be the largest radio station in the world at the time.... (1933). MM

So if it was built as an ambulance on a car based frame, it would then qualify as a Pro-Car then, right? :argueing:

Powell Crosley

Powell Crosley was from Cincinnati, Ohio. His radio station is still thee. The clear channel voice of WLW. His brother was forever involved in Powell's ideas. Most of the time he was the guy that got things done while Powell was the eternal dreamer.
I got the book on Crosley and his dreams from the library. It was a good read if you like history and stories of inventors from times gone by.

Crosley professional/military vehicles and chassis.

Crosley made quite a number of professional and military vehicles, including motorcycles and chassis, throughout its thirteen-year production life (1939-1952). We at the CROSLEY CAR OWNERS CLUB (CCOC) have a great number of rare photos, images and original Crosley literature online for public viewing, and there are no dues or Crosley ownership requirements to be a CCOC member. (As of this week, the CCOC is at 365 members.)

Thanks Louis!

THANKS Louis for your reply about the possibility of a Crosley "Professional Car" and introducing us to your club. Even by our strict standards.... it sounds like it could be considered a professional car too... in that they provided chassis for custom bodies built by others? (*) When I was a teenager growing up in So-Cal (late 50's) one of my friends had a pale yellow (Convertible) Crosley..... that was quite a hoot to drive around in for hours and hours on a few gallons of gas! (*) As I recall the chicks we were trying to impress seem to think it was cute too! MM
