What an eventful day to say the least. Bill arrives at 5:45 a.m. and away we go. The trip to get the Criterion went very well arriving about 8:30. As we pull up to the gate we can see it sitting next to the garage and what a garage. Man it was like dying and going to "Man Cave" heaven.
Once through the gate we get to touch the Criterion for the first time. At first glance it can be a bit shocking but once you get a better look at her, she is nice. Yes she has some rust issues, Yes she needs paint, and Yes she needs to be cleaned but overall, she is a HOME RUN.
I attemted to get her started but appeared to have dead batteries so we tried to jump her. What helps is when you find the battery switches, you turn them on. Once on she fired right up.....only to die. Guess what, no gas so off to the gas station I go. I get a few gallons in her she took off. Runs quiet with many new parts on her from exhaust to carb.
We do the deal so on the road we go. We stopped at the first gas station to fill her up just a couple miles from the house and it is driving good! We start out again getting about another 2 miles down the road then BAM the Criterion begins to shake violently. You know the drill, off the road we go. At first I thought I blew a tire but could not be that lucky. The only thing I can think of would be a carrier bearing. Looking under the car the drive shaft yoke slid about 1.5 inches out of the rear of the transmission and I can see the bearing looks out of place. I know I have to take it somewhere so I start out again driving slow. I hear grinding but no shake. I pick up speed and it seemed to have fallen all into place. So we decide to keep going.
We kept our speed under 50 and drove it home with no other issues. Once home Bill and I went over it pretty good. All electric works, the PA100 siren works, all lights inside and out, and the body is not as bad as I thought. It does require a section of the rear bumper so the hunt begins for that. I do have the vertical section. It came with complete new side trim, water pump, extra Federal Interceptor siren, and tons of supplies.
Appreciate everyone's interest.
