Circa 1914

Far be it for me to argue with a photo caption but, Flanner and Buchanan is located in Indianapolis, Indiana and has been for over 130 years. Either the photo caption is wrong about whose cars these were or they have the location wrong. The vehicles appear to be Studebaker-based whch may account for the Studebaker building in the background. Interesting photo nonetheless. Thanks.

Whoops! I read the caption wrong. It says the cars were on New York Street not a New York Street. Once again, thanks for posting the image and, sorry 'bout that.

Just got back and within minutes, I got a response to about the question of the significance of the Studebaker sign/building.

"That is the Meridian Life Building (sometimes called the Arthur Jordan Building), 307-315 N. Pennsylvania. It was designed by Rubush & Hunter and the Indiana Historical Society has many photos of it, as does the Indianapolis Star (since they currently occupy the much-modified building). I checked the 1916 city directory and see that Studebaker had offices on the 2nd floor. This was an office building, so I doubt that any automobile production happened here."

Gotta love that Old Time Indy's long missed businesses and forgotten history Facebook page :)

Keith, I was confused about that as well. The original post didn't mention Indianapolis.

sorry for any confusion. It came out of a book that highlights the history of Indianapolis. For that purpose, anyone who would have seen it in that book would have already assumed its Indy.
As a general post, it can be vague and confusing...But yes, this was taken on New York Street in Downtown Indy.

btw, can I ask in this post, how do I do the thank you option with this website? I see where people thanked me for posting, but, I can't seem to figure out how to thank others
