Christmas Lights 2011

Lights

Here are the lights on the front of my house, not as exciting as the ones in the video, but they are Christmas lights nonetheless.

I was not a big fan of the video at first then it was really neat. I have a few of those videos on my favorite list on youtube. Anyone ever heard of Trans-Siberian Orchestra? They have lots of holiday upbeat music and more than a few people started doing light shows for their music. I wonder if the neighbors of these people get angry after the 5th time they have heard it?

Yes Doug they are excellent. I discovered them about 3 weeks after the release of their first demo recording & am one of the first 100 founding members of the fan club. Got to see them live 3 times before they really went big, what a show they put on. Back in the first few years TSO (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) only toured the East coast so you got to see the entire original band perform with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (note: they used to send members ahead of time to teach each symphony the TSO material).

...Then the yuppies discovered them, then they got huge & the band split to cover the entire nation. Then it wasn't fun anymore. Through the years a couple TSO members passed away yet they still grew. Nowdays when you buy tickets you never know who you are really seeing and there are more & more stories surfacing of ticketholders demanding refunds because they expect to see the original band performing the concert.

Actually these days there are 2 different groups touring the country as TSO, both contain different "generations" of TSO who have joined over the years & those who remain of the original group. Through the rest of the year some reunite as the rock band "Savotage" who have been around as long as I can remember. TSO was an experiment that grew beyond everyone's wildest dreams.

This is my favorite live recording (i'm a sucker for live stuff, it's raw & more emotional) it's called "Believe" & was written as a tribute to the late Criss Oliva of Savatage. Tim Hockenberry REALLY belts this one out... enjoy

I found them only within the last few years. They actually had a show in Jacksonville last night but due to the being laid off from work and a full time student situation I have yet to see it. They are one of the few bands I think I might enjoy live. I generally really like the studio stuff due to the sound quality on a good sound system. Wonder if any of the TSO light show guys neighbors get fed up with it after a few nights or a few times in one night?

It would depend if the music was blared through speakers vs. broadcast in a way you can pick it up on your car radio. On TV the other night they showed how most of these elaborate displays broadcast their music like the drive-in theaters do, so the audio is only heard through radio.
Worst thing for the neighbors usually is all the traffic! Back in the 1980's there were two brothers who lived on the same street & they decorated their homes... traffic was so heavy the entire neighborhood complained for years. The brothers finally gave up & donated all their lights to the Columbus Zoo for their " wildlight wonderland" display.

Someone in my friends neighborhood has one that plays out loud but it is a small display. I was pondering unplugging their speakers after a few hours of being over there helping my friend with his car. Only so many times you can hear that santa song on repeat. I know the middle of the 3 video's I posted was done with outdoor speakers because it made it to the news with complaints and praises. I still wish there was one of those within driving distance to me that played TSO.

I was linked this one today which is a very dynamic one to me and I for sure like it a lot. It has a different feel than the others I guess.

one of my biggest fears is that I will have to spend the Christmas season living next to something like this. See it once is neat 10,000 times is maybe not so neat.
