Do you have pictures of Chicago ambulances or the sirens that were used in Chicago? If so, please post them to this thread.. thanks Paul

From any particular era...1959-64, 1965-70, or 1971-73, for example?

The CFD Cadillacs had roof-mounted sirens in only one year - 1973, the last year they bought real ambulances. All others had motor sirens behind the grille. The majority of those were Mars 8" models, as can barely be seen behind the center of the grille in these '66 and '67 versions below. None had electronic sirens.

The '63s were the first to use Guardian lights and the last to have the Mars DX-40 "football" light. There were no '64s. The '65s were the first to have Aurora Borealis beacons.

Regarding Cadillacs purchased by the CFD, Millers were purchased through 1954. Meteors were bought in 1956, and M-Ms from then on through the 1973 models.

Here's a one-off CFD rig, a '71 that was ordered for and served at O'Hare. It's the only CFD ambulance ever built with pedestal-mounted 888s, an electric spotlight, and a Mars RB beacon on the roof.

The shot of the '59 was culled and enlarged from a fire scene photo.

Here are examples of the 1972 and 1973 models. I would love to find better shots of all of these CFD cars:

I cant tell for sure in the picture of the two 73s, but I wonder if the siren is a large Mars Comander? It is hard to tell if is a Q or a Comander. I wouldn't dought that its a Mars Comander knowing how The City Of Chicago operated back then.

Both are Mars whistles; a 10" Commander on Ambulance 1, and an 8" on the other car.
