1st time attending. 11,000 vendors on 150 acres. Didn't expect to find too much procar stuff so expectations were low in that regard. Here's some of the more interesting stuff/prices - including a little more than procar.
Drove the '95 to have plenty of hauling space. Last 15 miles took almost an hour through heavy congestion. Had planned on arriving 30-40 minutes before gates opened which didn't happen. A buddy called who beat me there by 10 minutes to relay a body was found in the first field directly across from the parking lot we planned on meeting in. Apparently a male vendor passed sometime during the night sleeping in his truck. His discovery had just been made.
Well, once I was close enough to parking people, they opened a lane for me to drive through, holding other people up. After reaching front of line, I relayed that I was not there for the body and that I prefer to pay for parking. Of course everyone thought I was joking...
Onto fun stuff.
I like original more than repop. Bought 'em.
Beautiful yet pricey small (slightly larger than a metal lunchbox) Coke airline cooler. Never seen one before and can appreciate rarity. It sold shortly after too.
Only landau irons in entire place and of course they stuck right out. '80s? Too new for me. Still, for $45/pr the chrome was excellent.
The first random/bizarre twist of the day happened as I was taking the above photo. A mid-'70s gentleman overheard me inquiring about the landau irons and a conversation with him ensued. Turns out he owned a '54 Eureka flower car(!). His wife comes over and the two of them have me in stitches as they lovingly reminisce, relaying story after story about that "open hearse". 10 minutes later he relays that although the flower car is long gone, he still has spare parts tucked away in his garage loft. Turns out when he bought the flower car a bunch came with it from a parted hearse. He kept it all. The hearse was a '54 Eureka landau(!). We exchanged info after I told him I was interested in buying whatever he wanted to sell. Awe struck experience.
'32 Studebaker Rockne Coupe!?! Rare! Only seen one before in private collection. Can't imagine replacing for $29.5k would be easy in this condition.
Blue lenses are throwing me on this. Flat base would mean fire truck, right? Front lens glass (cracked), rear lens plastic w/ '62' molded around perimeter. Didn't look like it was worth $125.
Complete dreamer fishing - batwing priced 3x market value.
