Car stalls when shifted into gear

Hello Everyone,
I would like to request help with a mechanical issue I am having with the '77 Lifeliner. I brought the car home a few months ago, it had been sitting in a garage for about 12 years. I was able to drive it onto the car trailer just fine at the garage. Once we got the car home, we found that the engine wanted to die when we would shift it into gear. Also, when I start the car, the engine idles on high for a bit, and when it goes to low idle it will stall out unless I give it gas. Here are the things I have done to the car:
-Topped off AT fluid
-Oil change
-Rebuilt the carb
-new fuel pump
-New air filter
-replaced the transmission modulator
-new spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and ignition coil.
-added fresh gas with sea foam

I am running out of ideas on what to check next. Any suggestions are appreciated!
Thank you in advance,
Kurt

The low speed idle jets are clogged with old stale gas varnish. When the car is on a high idle, the throttle plate is partially opened, and the vacuum is sucking gasoline through the venturies. Once it goes off high idle, then the idle circuit which is located under the throttle plate is engaged. Since they are partially or fully clogged, the car is stumbling and wants to stall. If you give the accelerator some movement, the throttle plate opens, and the engine smoothes out. There is a rebuild in your future. Have your original Quadrajet rebuilt, since all the "rebuilt" units are a conglomeration of many carburetors, and are a less than optimum solution.
PS... I am presently having the same problem with my Carter AFB on my 1963 Pinner Chrysler

Transmission filter and oil pan gasket, trans fluid drain and fill?

Have you dropped the transmission oil pan and changed the transmission filter? If that's clogged the trans oil pump can't pick-up enough trans oil to build pressure and engage the clutch packs via pressurized trans oil. Also if the fluid is excessively dark you might want to drain the torque convertor too. It'll be about a case or so of Dexron/Mercon. Check your Owner's Manual for trans fluid capacity. To drain the torque convertor you'll need to remove the bottom cover on the bell housing which will allow you see the torque convertor. First you'll have to disconnect the wires that go to the distributor if it's the HEI style or remove the center coil wire if it's not so you can crank the engine without it starting. You'll have to bump the starter to rotate the torque convertor while someone watches for a small drain plug to appear on the bottom, assuming there is one. Once you remove the drain plug you should get about 8-10 quarts of fluid out so make sure you have a decent-sized container underneath to catch all the fluid. Once that's done you could crank the engine some more until there's no fluid coming out the bottom of the transmission. Then you'll have to fill it back up through the trans dipstick tube. Put enough fluid in until it reads at the cold mark on the dipstick and then start the engine. Shut it off after about 15 seconds and then check the dipstick and add fluid until it's at the cold mark again and repeat these steps over and over again until the fluid doesn't go down from the cold mark. I strongly recommend that you verify this procedure with a local transmission shop for integrity reasons. It's been many, many years since I've done this and my memory may be faulty in remembering this procedure.....:myopinion:

Who did the carb rebuild? That carb is not very fun to rebuild and there are many parts that could be the problem. The power valve could be stuck open.
the throttle plate shaft could be worn out so the plates don't sit right. the fuel bowls could be leaking gas out the top. the wrong gaskets could have been used to rebuild it. the list goes on.

Hello Everyone,
I-Oil change
-Rebuilt the carb
-new fuel pump
-New air filter
-replaced the transmission modulator
-new spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and ignition coil.
-added fresh gas with sea foam

I am running out of ideas on what to check next. Any suggestions are appreciated!
