Cadillac ends DTS production

Detroit Free Press - May. 25, 2011

(snip)

Wednesday was the first day since the factory opened in 1985 that it ran without building a Cadillac.

The Detroit-Hamtramck plant, which GM built specifically for Cadillacs, produced its last Cadillac DTS Tuesday. The factory will build the last Buick Lucerne next week.

Gotta wonder if the storage lot at Accubuilt is bulging with an extra large inventory of DTS B9Q and V4U chassis right now.

I don't know about accubuilt but a rep from eagle said they just bought 400 caddy's before production stopped.

Storage

That sounds about right. As I recall, Eagle and Federal each produced about 250 coaches annually in recent years before they merged. This supply ought to tide them over until they can find an alternative chassis to build on. I took a look at a satellite photo of their facility. Obviously, they don't have the room to store all of those vehicles. They probably have a Cincinnati Cadillac dealer doing it for them.

The cincinnati Cadillac dealers don't have much room on their properties to hold much more than the inventory they already have, unless Jeff Wyler (the closest dealership) has some extra storage space somewhere. There is a BUNCH of storage properties all along SR 125 close to the factory.

I don't know where they will be but they don't have to take them all at once.

Does this mean that there will not be any Cadillac professional cars anymore?
Don't worry - there will be. The head of Cadillac's professional car division is the speaker at our banquet this July. She will be showing all the pics and explaining all that she is allowed to share in regards to the future of Caddy procars.

It'll be interesting to hear about her presentation. I hope she doesn't reveal that Cadillac is following Lincoln's lead by only offering the hearse and limo builders a Crossover or SUV chassis. I remain skeptical about the suitability of the forthcoming XTS chassis.

It will definitely be an interesting presentation. I have no idea what she will say and part of her right now doesn't know what she will say either. According to her, she will be presenting the most up to date pictures and information that Cadillac is allowing her to share as of the date of our meet.

cadillac dts

sorry to hear that dts production has ended.by a strange coincidence i loaded a dts on my car carrier at jessup,md.railyard this past wednesday.delivered it to alexander cadillac in sunbury,pa. had a discussion with a salesman who checked in the car,he said the new "full size"caddy would be a cross between the cts and the dts.it will be interesting to see what they come up with, and how well it will lend itself to procar production.very sad news, end of an era!

If She does say That I see a Future in Restoration/Reproduction of Hearse's
Like what Happened with the Chevy Caprice

I was talking with a dealer because I couldn't understand the deal with the 2012 Cadillacs... I think I have all of this right, but Cadillac supplied a B9Q chassis that served as the 2010, 2010 1/2 chassis. They have now supplied a chassis that is a W29 DTS, that is not as heavy of a built car, and has black wall tires and different wheels. He thought there were about 300 chassis left for use by all coach builders for use until August 2012. He indicated that if you saw a B9Q chassis parked beside a W29 chassis there would be a difference in the "duty" sizing of the vehicles.
I may have this wrong so someone else chime in with any information they have...

Kent, we'll all know the answer in three and a half weeks when the head of Cadillac's professional car division explains the changes during her presentation at the international meet's banquet. Join us in Hudson and you can hear all about it for yourself. :)

DTS chassis options

Apparently, the B9Q option was discontinued back in March. Take a look at these two links for a brief explanation of the difference between the B9Q and W29 specs.
