C/B chassis question

Hi All, does anyone know if Oldsmobile, back in the day, had a form of Commercial Chassis like Cadillac did to supply C/B with in order for them to build their Ambulances and Coaches or were they sold partially completed vehicles that C/B modified in the process of building their vehicles? The only reason that I'm asking this question is that I saw online somewhere an old paper 2-page ad, probably out of an old Funeral Director's magazine, that showed a 60's-something Oldsmobile C/B Funeral Coach on one page and then an Oldsmobile Chassis with engine and steering wheel with column on another page. Seeing this begs me to ask the question. Thanks for your answers ahead of time.....:thankyou2:

C/B reengineered the standard GM chassis to lengthen the side rails and remove the arch over the rear Axel. when you read the literature of the 68 flier it stated the GM/CB chassis. basically what they did was cut the frame were it widened out and replace the entire side rail adding there cross members as needed. they bragged this up as better then a cut and splice. this keep also the standard Oldsmobile suspension in place. then in the rear they chopped off the arch over the axle to get there flat floor. they did a neater job the what I have seen on superiors Pontiac's. who used the standard Pontiac bonneville frame. flexible used the big buck one. I never got under Bill's combo to see how they did there stretch or arch. but I have seen the Superior arch. now I can't tell you the difference in the GM frames. just that GM stated they were different. I know the suspension parts interchange in most of them so suspect the difference is created like only GM could do.

the pictures are of the 68 flier and my 72 Seville one can see the damage that the rust belt did on the arch. it looks to be a good repair there by the boys in RI.

as far as I know the only two commercial chassis supplied by manufactures to coach builders was the caddy and the Packard

How right you are, Paul!! But if you read my original post I'd stated that I saw that old C/B ad somewhere online, but unfortunately, I don't remember where it was, otherwise I would've posted it to the thread....:bonk: But I will try to find it and post it.... :agree:

Every C/B I have seen has the rust exactly like this one!

it looks like they did as I asked and cut the old rusty one off and welded a new one. they make a curved tip for the tourch for scarfing off slabs of steel. you just cut around it removing the weld and leaving the sup base in tack. boths side of the frame look the same on the car.
