Bumper filler...and more

Down to wire on finishing up 64 Superior combo. Can't find in Cadillac Master Parts book some items, the bumper filler between tail lights and body or filler between side cornering lamps and body. You can't really see that one, but it was dissolved and suppose needs replaced. Alson, one last RANT...we ather stripping, why can't I use the stuff from a 64 Series 62 and fill in where it gaps? Otherwise, John Rendstrom found some that will work that I will probably use. And, now that car is back together, something was mis-placed and I can't open the hood from the front...I remember there was something I pulled/pushed on right side of grill, but it's not there now...figures. These last few weeks have been very frustrating in trying to get this project on the road.

one could use the weather striping for a fleetwood and fill the gaps but that would give you 4 places to splice on each door. you have to get a least 2 exter to make them work I would estimate. the back bumper filler looks to be a superior only things this 63 did not have any in it. there a filler anti rattle piece. you may have to cut a set out of some black foam to make do. Rubber the right way has all of the splash aprons for the front end. I'm thinking that this is what is missing by the courting lamp. I can take a pictures of this 63 hood release and you may be able to see what is missing. but what you really need to do is back off for a day or two and re group. go ICE fishing for the day then you'll be glad to get back to work on the car. the hood release is one leaver that moves up to release. that pulls the lock back and moves the safety catch to the reat. the single post latches were a problem if you have the peg off. they will jam in the latch. makin tthem tight ad get you to thing that it's latched when it's not or jaming in tight enough so you have to pry the hood up.

Doug, I think the hood latch is different for a '64 than a '63. I remember on my '64 M-M combo the latch was just below the body color strip in the grille (can't remember if it was slightly left or right of center) and you moved it horizontally to release the hood.

yes, that sure sounds familiar...I think it was on the left side and you moved from left to right......I need to find a pic of a 64 hood/grill. Thanks.
