Brake light.

Looks like i 'm going to be back in the working class in a bit. But till then i have this problem with the right brake light. It wount light up. missed seeing that on the 64. I have a bright turn light and decent tail Light. But no brake. So turn signal switch but i have to hot brake light wires coming out and across the connector. So not there. So were is the open i think i got it down to a junction box, Were the power wire from the stop light switch goes in. But i ran out of steam yesterday. Will hunt more

The wires from the fuse block to the rear run along the left side of the car. The connector to the dash wire harness is located behind the left side kick panel. This is where I would start looking for the issue. The directional signal switch is located on the steering column, and all power to the rear stop lights and directional flows through this switch. The stop light switch is located on the steering column and it is a very basic switch, one wire in and one wire out.

yes first things first. We find what color wire we are looking for. in this case the right side is green. We know the the wiring is good to the bulb because we have a turn signal. We know the contacts in the turn signal switch are good as in the neutral position with the brake pushed we have steady power on two wires and across the connector. No power with the brake off. Those contacts work. By tracing the power off the brake switch we find it goes to a junction box were we find the green wire with out power with the brake pushed. So we take the connector apart clean it up and put it back together and we have power now on our green wire and our light. Lucked out here as i don't have the turn signal switch laying around. Put the new neutral safety switch on and this one is ready to go driving. Never had one with a turn but no brake light before. That was a strange one. In the picture of the signal switch you can just see the open contact that lets it flash on one side and steady burn on the other.

That is a neutral safety and back up light switch. I put all LED bulbs into my 1962 since the original 1157 bulbs are about as bright as candles by comparison to the LED bulbs. The only place that I couldn't use an LED bulb was the dome light, because that bulb has a double contact on the end, and the LED bulb with the double contact doesn't isolate the ground from the case of the bulb.

Now me I'm not worried about how bright they are,but i don't live were you do. The safty switch was the last thing to swap out it was old and broken so it would start in any posision. is better that that oldsmobile it dosent start any posision. One doesn't think about those things. But i was able to find the last one in our parts house system in sioux falls this morning. Better go get a spare off rock auto. There standard shipping is so slow and I'll need to move it to put Nicks can in when it gets there. Around Tuesday. With so many cars around her if I do temporary fixes they last for years and the only get changed if i get surprised.
