"Trip Back in Time to the Battlefield"
The 4th Annual Volunteer Chapter Berea, KY Meet was on September 21-23 and was hosted by Reppert Funeral Home. Lonnie and Geraldine Reppert along with Rick, Tricia and Ryan Cox supplied attendees with plenty to do and lots to eat. There were 8 professional cars in attendance during the event.
Pete Bain was the earliest arrival from NC and was subjected to the local college hangout for some tasty Italian cuisine at Papaleno's Restaurant near the Berea College campus.
Saturday started out with a short trip to the Battle of Richmond Visitors Center and Battlefield Park which was celebrating the 150th year anniversary of the battle. A very informative and amazing laser operated order of battle on a topographic map gave a nice start to the many period display items at the museum. Members then visited the Mt. Zion Church which was used as a field hospital. Battle scarred exterior walls still remain and the account was retold of the church pews (still original to the battle) being used as hospital beds along with the specific window being pointed out that had severed body limbs even with its sill at the end of the battle! The Battle of Richmond was the most complete victory for the Confederacy during the entire war.
A quick trip back to Berea brought us in line with participation in the 16th Annual Spoonbread Festival parade. Several thousand spectators enjoyed the line-up of hearses being led by LeeAnn's limo "Elmo". The Repperts again supplied a wonderful and tasty catered meal complete with a PCS chapter cake and other desserts after the group enjoyed PCS Member Larry Sanders and his band, Borderline, as they performed at the festival.
That evening we opened up the hearse display on the funeral home grounds to the general public where many locals and area visitors stopped by for refreshments and discussion about the vehicles and the organization.
The Repperts and Coxes wish to thank everyone who made the trip and be aware that plans are in the works for the meet again in 2013.
